There is a historical distinction between Classical Liberalism and Modern Liberalism. Classical Liberalism is what you described above: the basic rights of citizens, black, white, male, female, to take part in their government. It was a worthy and necessary movement. Modern Liberalism, however, is a completely different animal; it is in no way comparable to women's suffrage or civil rights. It is about tyranny by the minority, moral relativism, and the Agenda that can never be satisfied. Anyone who speaks out against the Agenda is a bigot, or a racist, or a sexist, or in some way a deviant. It is an ugly turn for humanity, and it makes civil discourse nearly impossible.
Jeff, I can try to respond to some of this later. Let it be said, for now, that it speaks volumes that you think ^this stuff makes civil discourse impossible yet you don't even raise an eyelid at the post above mine that says
"Unfortunately AIDS isn’t the killer it was once. ..."
And you have the effin gall to think MY set of beliefs represent an "ugly turn for humanity"? You're so clearly perfectly OK with ^this kind of humanity, and you deign to call those who oppose it ugly. Simply because it's uncomfortable for you. Yet you're so comfortable with the above commentary it doesn't even stand out to you.
That kind of commentary is so benign to you you don't even see it. And if I said "f*** you" then I somehow become the militant, right? I become "the vocal minority" when I point to the toxic sh!t you blatantly ignore. Then your oh so polite commentary, your "civil discourse", comes to an abrupt halt because I'm being rude? You're the classic example of the "well she shouldn't have worn a short dress" juror, aren't you?
To the pr!ck above who actually made the comment, f"$& you. AIDS is very much still a killer. It kills good people. And when, Gaia forbid, some people YOU love, wonderful, caring, thoughtful, honest and generous people pass away with some equally tragic disease, I hope you'll come to grasp just how f***ed up what you just said is. I don't expect you'll even sack up and apologize, of course, but you should.
