Justyn just ran a 14:01! Not a very fast time at the ACC Championship, but an amazing last 200 and out kicked Thomas Curtin. Not sure if it was a final or not, but he looked relaxed for the entire race which makes me think he could run ~13:43 if running a race from the front. Could he give King Che's a run for his money. He is only a freshman

good for him. Can he challenge ches? no. he barley beat curtin who was also chilling. When Ches races and he kicks you know the end. When Knight kicked I still thought Curtin would catch him. Thats the difference.

Knight and Curtin both ran 25 second last laps

This has to be a joke
Bennie already ran faster than that last month...
He could certainly go sub 13:30 this winter
I guess that we won't see it, since he didn't qualify for the 5000m -
if he qualified for the 3000m (7.48), then why would he do both anyway - Fox isn't that stupid. This kid has a great career ahead of him, to not do dumb things like that at his age.
is the OP really that stupid - of course it was a final!! Just a tactical one. -
sucks
-
Nice race. He has better range than Sebastian Coe.

I hope so. Coe is 60? -
Super fun last 200 to watch. Both knight and curtain have some kind of next level talent. Curtain almost snuck by at the end but knight held him off in the last few strides

After Day 2 Syracuse has the lead in the ACC mens team battle.
can they win the whole thing?
Yes they have distance points a plenty but they also have sprint and hurdle points coming (4 hurdlers in the final) -
Congratulations, Justyn!
I'd love to see a team title - especially in outdoor. -

Well, he ran 13:34 about 10 months ago and he has improved a lot, so I'm thinking 13:43 wouldn't be a problem now. -

Idk if I'd call a 25.5 last 200 "chilling." And in response to whoever said he could probably run a 13:43, he ran 13:34 last outdoor season and is much better now. Man this thread is crazy. Are you guys really surprised by him? -
Who doesn't want JK to beat Ches? East meets west baby! Blue collar vs. blue-chip program. Rocky subplot. Major props to the 'Cuse. Ches is a narcissistic ego maniac.

I remember watching Coe trying to race a 5000m, he has poor VO2 Max. Dude could only go FAST, no real strength endurance. I want to say he retired with a 5000m PR above 14:00 and I am sure his 3000m is not that impressive. He was also poor in cross country.

I agree. I actually hope that Knight will not run the 3000m today. He already ran a hard mile and a hard 5000m. Why run 3 races? -
If you are in 13:25 shape, and you run 4600m at 14:13 pace, that is almost 6% slower than your race pace. That's like a short tempo run followed by a 400 in 56. So I wouldn't call that a "hard race". Was it difficult to run against strong competition? Of course, but it's not an effort that requires as much recovery as if he raced to his maximum speed.

Absolutely agree. If you look at their splits it's very clear the race actually started with ~400m to go.
Now we get to see a rematch in the 3k. Curtin still needs a qualifying time, and I bet he'd also like to leave with at least one ACC title. -
Knight (RS FR) indoor season so far
First race: Mile: 3:56 (school record)
Second race: 3000m 7:48 (school record)
Third race: DMR: 9:36 (school record)
Fourth race: 5000m 14:01 (ACC champion). First race where he does not beat the School record. -
Looks like Knight ended up tripling. Took the 3k in 8:02 closing in 55 to help Syracuse secure the ACC win. Syracuse is really coming into its own now. For a distance oriented program like them to win ACC's is very impressive.
