you'll hate your life at miles 8-9 if you go out at too aggressive a pace. if you start more conservatively and treat it like a progression, you'll be oki had a great experience where i had been running two 5 mile runs a week for a few months with a friend, just to catch up, and never did any workout or tempo pace, just easy 7:00+ stuff. i started the HM at 7:00 pace and got faster every mile, my last being in 5:55 or something. it ended up being a 1:24 or something gentle, 12 minutes off my PB on that course, but felt so good to always be accelerating and picking people off.
