My little guy came home from school on Friday and asked to go for a run.
At first I said no. This is because I can be a clueless dad sometimes. I had knocked out a decent 10 miler earlier and I guess I didn't feel up for shuffling along with him. I was aiming for a recovery jog later that night on the treadmill, but I wasn't putting 2 and 2 together.
He gave me this heartbreaking look which brought me to my senses. I took him to the trail and he was intent on going 4 miles, which would be his longest run by a mile.
It worked out great. He was steady the whole way. We stopped twice to observe two groups of deer. We got back to the car just before dark. I had fired up the GPS when we started. We covered the 4 miles in 50 minutes.
Using Canova metrics, I calculated this at 47% of my target marathon pace.
I've read how Kenyans run ridiculously slow junk miles. I watched Wilson Kipsang lead the pack in warm-ups at Ocean Breeze before the NYC Marathon. I started timing their laps and had them at roughly 9:30 pace. That's 50% of 4:45 marathon pace.
I'm inclined to log the 4 miles we did. Opinions?
