I think I'd run easy on the treadmill for the year on a cruise ship. Once the money ran out I'd get a job on the cruise ship and start doing long runs on land when we were at port. That way I could see the world during the year, get in a lot of rest and recovery and eat at a buffet. Okay, I stole the idea from that one one ultra runner kid who did this a couple years ago and beat Max King at JKF 50.
What would you do for a year on a budget?

I can't even imagine budgeting to live on 6% of my current income. Doesn't even compute.

Only 20k? For a year? That's plenty of money to live very comfortably on.
buy some sort of shack in the hills (not mountains, can't get snowed out). Maybe just build a Tuff Shed there. Buy a few 50 pound sacks of rice and beans. Get some chickens, plant some vegetables. Get a water filter
Gotta be near a pretty clean river for drinking. The filter can only do so much.
Get a bunch of books
Wear a hoodie and aviator sunglasses
Not too far from a post office.
Probably enter tons of smaller races to win money from each day
There are plenty of places you could live pretty comfortably on 1700 a month.
