It just got to 30 degrees here in South Mississippi and when I went out for a morning run I felt like my lungs would collapse from freezing...the cold air hurts so bad.
What is the lowest temps you Yankees have run in without getting killed?

lol 30 degrees? man thats like 60 degrees for me... I am running in -10 to -20 degree weather with -30 wind chill at times....you get used to it...layer up and you'll be fine!
Wish it was 30 here :( lol
I would say about -70.When you spit and it turns to ice before it hits the grounds it's to cold for a run. That's when I just take a day off.
This year has been very mild but last year in New York, we logged many below zero days. "There's no such thing as bad weather, just soft people" -- Bowerman
Today was a rather balmy -3 with a wind chill of -12. I do respect that all temperature is realitive to where you live so 30 in Miss. is cold.
The key is to keep your head, hands and toes warm, buy the right gear and your will be fine.
Actually, there is a temp that is too cold. It actually falls below -15 or lower. Sure you can tough it out, but there is some damage that occurs to the outer layer of the inner lining of your lungs that takes place.
-30 celcius is my cut-off (with or without wind-chill).
Truthfully the temp. doesn't really matter as long as you dress for it. It is more the amount of snow and/or ice on the ground which is a limiting factor (more annoying than anything else).
It has been -10 to -22 with the wind chill. With the right clothes it isn't too bad. It was about 8 below last night and didn't even where my coat. It is amazing what Duofold can do.
0 to 10 degrees many times here on the high plains of Texas.
In fact it was 15 F this morning.
I disagree with the lung damage. The air that enters your mouth or nose is nice and warm by the time it hits your lungs.
30 degrees is not cold! I have been in 45+ below zero (without counting wind chill). Extreme heat is scarier and much worse.
I just read "The Perfect Mile". I understand that Jim Peters was never the same after the 1954 Empire Games Marathon in Vancouver in 1954.
Yeh right! 45 below? Whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was 23 degrees at 7 AM here in North Mississippi when I went out to run this morning. I ran 15 miles and felt great! I wore tights, three polypro longsleeve T's, a windbreaker, gloves, and a wool hat. Felt comfy and cozy the whole way.
But I'm originally from NYC. 30 degrees is cold?? No: zero degrees and below is cold. Anything higher than that is hardly worth talking about.
"Cold," as far as I'm concerned, is when you need to wear a wool sweater when you run. I did that the one or two times I ran in subzero temps.
23 was heavenly. I love those arctic highs.
if you go to yahoo.com and look at the news it has a story about a town in minnesota that it -54 today
Right! minus 45F and colder. It is minus 26C there right now. On Thursday the high for the day is to be minus 18C. The low is to be minus 36C. And there is a lot of snow! Isn't it nice to learn things?
Orville, where you at right now that's that cold?
I'll run in just about anything to -30C. I could run in colder, but that's my pansy-threshold.
If you don't believe running in 45 below temps you obviously don't live up North.

BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No you are right, I don't live in the north, but you pansies still aren't running more than 50 yards to the mailbox and back when it is that cold!
Almost 80 here in LA, I'm just off to the beach...
