Jonathan Gault has written a profile on America's version of Yuki Kawauchi (Zablocki ran 13 marathon in less than 12 months) that I think you'll enjoy.
From 11:07 in his last HS race to possibly 2:13 in the marathon on Saturday. Never give up!!

what a crazy life. I can't imagine doing long runs without a watch, I'd go crazy or think I'd been running for 3 hours at 1 hour, how's he get runs in before work and other commitements without being late?
I met that guy at a race once. He said some days he felt like running really hard and would just hammer long runs and sometimes take off 2-3 days afterward. I thought it was nutty training but the guy was running fast. I think it shows that there is no one system for everyone and different people bring different mental and physical things to the table, so they adapt differently.
Fantastic article! Finally, someone from the lower ranks racing to make it.
Yes, it is great all these masses of hobby runners make the trials, but to actually want to contend is refreshing! How many of the 200 people that qualify actually want to contend? Maybe 20?
Rupp, Meb, Zablocki?
Rupp, Ritz, Zablocki.
My DVR is set. These will be the best marathon trials since 1984.
Mr. Gault,
Extremely well done. Award winning level article.
A great subject is half the battle perhaps, but you did an excellent job giving us a real sense of this great maverick with the heart of a primal runner.
This is what making your own running your art is like.
Great spirit, great article. Probably LRC's best original piece ever.
Congrats!
(This should be submitted for pick up by the AP.)
Etc.

+1 +1 +1
Zablocki has been training with a small group here in Brighton UK.. lots of racing and really tearing up the scene.. i ran in the same 10K as him a couple of days ago in chichester.. strong field he did a respectable 30:26 in pretty windy and cold conditions.. not bad on marathon training
ran an extremely impressive XC at the southern champs @ parliament hill in ridiculously muddy conditions (not your US golf course fairway stuff) came second..
This guy is extremely strong. would love to see him make your olympic team
Would also like to add that to place 2nd at parliment Hill is pretty special and require lots of aggression and self belief
Loved the article!
You guys should do more articles like this. I love the stories of walk ons and journeymen who aren't the stars of the sport. They're often more interesting characters, too.

meh, maybe he was naive going in, but it clearly wasn't for him. We need to stop holding the armed forces in such high regard, like they guard the gates to heaven, its just another job.

Yeah the headline will be "Mike From Bosotn drinks 13 gallons of jism in 12 months"
Also, it looks like he's just a rich twerp from CT that parents let finance any whim he has. i wanna live in on islands!! Whaaa I wanna go to med school! Pay for me mummy & daddy!! I am such a maverick!
Cut MikeFromBosotn some slack. He's clearly still butthurt that the Patriots lost.
Jon, this is your Pulitzer!

Interesting guy for sure, but one of the advantages of being privileged is having the privilege to be avant-garde, unconventional and newfangled, etc., I like how he does things his own way without worrying about the consequences, but that tends to be privileged mentality.

Wow. I did not get that at all.
Great article. Hope his legs are fresh and snappy after taking a few months off racing 26.2. Would love to see a gutsy race from him this weekend. Doesn't sound like he lacks the confidence to scrap with the top dogs for a good portion of the distance.
He went to the islands for medical school and to help the underprivileged, you numbnut. Curious as to why he runs so many races? That's because he pays for all of his own student loans, including medical school - not his parents.
What have you been doing all morning? Getting fed grapes in your mom's basement?
Great article but the pudding is somewhat over egged. His running in the UK has been good but nothing outstanding other than a good run at the southern XC on what is a very hard traditional xc course. This years field however was distinctly lacking in quality with the winner coming home a minute ahead. You'd usually have 5-6 guys in that minute. Lots if guys who'd ususlly be in he low teens finishing very high up. 30.20's at Chichester is nothing to write home about even on a bad day, it's a lightning quick course. He was well down the field. I wish him well but can't see quicker than 2.15/16
Definitely not privileged the article mentioned he went to Xavier High School in CT....ooh let's look up how much that costs "Tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year will be $16,700."....Yeah sure he was paying those costs back then too. Your privileged twerps that think your so great for taking off a few years before following daddy's plans. Your not daredevils, just geeks that went to ivy league and spent a few years being "different". Rich Hipsters.
