Okay, if she runs 4:09, and is reasonably competitive in the race, we'll figure last week was just a workout, and she's still got a shot to be a factor this year.

If she runs 4:19, we'll have confirmation that she's in really bad trouble.

I hope it's closer to the former, but I wouldn't feel too confident.

She wouldn't go to Germany if she wasn't ready to rock the world.

Wish I had known about this earlier. I live 90min from there and could've watched in person.

I pretty much agree with this. Why would Nike/NOP/Salazar spend the $, and possibly more of a factor, why would Cain go through the effort to go to Germany, unless she was feeling pretty fit and looking for some competition? NBIGP is one week away, and I doubt she would have any trouble getting into that field if she wanted to. Not to mention the weekly meets in Portland the past few weeks. Expecting/hoping for big things in this race.

I think she got the yips last year.

You coudl have asked the same question last year - why race her if she was only in 4:16 shape? because she wasn't in 4:16 shape - she was in 4:06 shape but mentally collapsed.

I can think of a lot of reasons.

1) To get away from the US. In Germany, she doesn't know the people she's racing. She's just running against a bunch of randoms, there is no US media, etc.

2) Money. Maybe she gets an appearance fee but I doubt it's much.

I think the answer is much more likely to be #1 than the idea that she's in the shape of her life as you seem to be implying.

Jonathan Gault told me the meet is on BeInsports 6. Yes indeed it's true. From 1:45 to 3:30 pm ET.

Now to watch Beinsports 6, you have to access to BeinSports Connect which is supposed to be only available to cable and satellite subscribers in the US . Beinsports connect is not part of the Slingtv package.

All of the cable providers in the US pretty much have access to BeInsports Connect except for Xfinity/Comcast which is what of course I have (Comcast is hoping to have it soon). Thus I thought I was screwed.

But I'm not!! I discovered you can purchase BeInsports Connect over the Internet for 19.99. It's supposed to be for Canadians only but I went to beINSPORTSCONNECT.ca and put in Toronto as my hometown and used by US billing address and I'm now I'm a subscriber for $19.99 and it seems to be working just fine. It doesn't steam on chrome though. You need firefox or explorer.

Wow! That's a pretty stacked men's 3K. Ndiku, Alamirew, Kejelcha, Choge, Koech, plus 1500 guys Mananogi and Birgen. Five of those 7 just raced on Wednesday though.

Yasin Haji is no slouch either ... 13:10 PR, and 2nd in the 5K at 2014 World Juniors on the track (to Kejelcha) and won World Juniors XC last year.

This race will definitely be the highlight of the meet for me.

That is a terrific 3k. I hope they really go for a fast time. Nice to see what Manangoi, the latest 3:29 Kenyan, can do at 3k indoors. Choge is in shape. Ndiku's not in bad shape. Should be good.

Lock it will be tactical. And a snooze fest.

The conquest last week. A few English tourists got bored, so they decided to annex Berlin. The whole country suddenly started singing God Save the Queen.
