CNU runner dies after collapsing during training

Second runner to die while running this year, both female, both 18 years. what's going on people? we won't know anything about Beks G/F cause she is already buried.

My heart goes out to the two families.

Nothing. It is a big world. Two deaths does not a trend make.

What does that mean?? Are you insinuating anorexia/bulimia or something like that(only thing I could think of)??? If so, how many anorexic runners have dropped dead of cardiac arrest while running before?? None that I have heard of.

So not sure why, knowing nothing about her, one could make an "educated guess" on such an unusual occurence.

Anyway, I wonder if anyone is going to "make an educated guess" that she was on performance enhancing drugs? That would be stupid, but my point is: some people said out loud (or thought) that exact thing when Bekele's fiancee dropped dead. And it was wrong to say/think that, especially since there is no proof of high use of drugs by African runners (in other words: why accuse Bekele's fiancee, but not think the same thing about a white chick from the USA).

And the main "moral of the story" is: people DO drop dead while running sometimes, but in very, very, very small %'s. Often it is just an unknown heart defect that is the culprit, or an aneurism. These things just occasionally tragically happen.

Why not EPO?

The mild thought that a girl running 25 minutes for a 6k would be on some sort of performance enhancing drugs is ridiculous, and bears no other retort.

This is the second death in this region in the last 3 months, after a young lady in Texas was hit by an aged driver on a run.

Some people have congenital heart defects that take years to manifest. It can all be over in an instant, with no visible warning. Andy Palmer died the same way.

So if you have some other, negative thoughts, go nuts, but keep it to yourself. That way only you rot in hell.

to be honest, the thought that they/she might be on drugs never occurred to me.

Most likely a heart defect of some sort that will come to light after an autopsy.

What?!?!? Did I WRITE that I thought she was on drugs?????? Of course not. All I DID write was: it would be unfair for someone to think that Bekele's fiancee was on drugs just because she is African and faster than most, while not thinking the same about this white, American runner. That's all. I don't think EITHER ONE was on drugs. Isn't that what I wrote??? You can understand my hardly subtle point, right? Now what did I write that I thought WAS the likely reason both died, IMHO? Some heart defect. And I was DEFENDING this girl against other negative insinuations. Such as the comment made by "sad", that women who have run on university teams would be able to make an educated guess on why she died. I am still waiting for more than vague innuendos from "sad." I interpreted "sad's" cryptic, vague comments as suggesting that this girl's death was caused by an eating disorder, and clearly stated that that was I thought was implied by the poster. And what does the brilliant "sad" come back with?

What?!?!? Again, where did I make THAT suggestion(that YOU, "sad", thought or implied that). I simply said it was wrong for anyone (and there WERE people who were doing this) to have a double standard on drug accusations, THAT was all.

Just shows the lack of class and human decency of people on this message board. To take something tragic like this and make such comments as you all have made above...I am absolutely disgusted. I'd advise you all to read the article below on the deceased runner...

If you really believe that, you are pretty naive. I have never talked to anyone that is heavily involved in track & field (coach or athlete) that doesn't believe that Flojo died because of her steroid use. It just goes to show that to some people, cheating and using steroids to win is worth the incredible risks, even if it means leaving a child and husband behind.

I am sorry, but anytime I see Flojo's name is any kind of positive light, I get angry. She basically stole millions of dollars through cheating and got away with it in many people eyes that don't know too much about track & field.

I agree with Butler, try being decent people for once. I mean seriously...this girl loved YOUR sport, running, so why don't you show her, her teammates, her friends / family, and coaches some respect. Why don't you all go back to picking on the professional runners that get injured or have a bad performance instead of making rude comments about a girl that isn't even with us anymore? No, I don't run for CNU, so don't start bashing their team. I just know a few of their runners and hate to see people do this.
