UW Invite: Allie Ostrander track debut

Whoops - forgot to mention that it is a 5K race tonight.

The race might have already been run today? I could be wrong, and I won't mention any possible results to spoil it for flotrack viewers tonight, but I followed the meet link from T&F news, to the Univ. of Washington page on the meet, and then followed the Live Results link from there. The women's 5,000 looks to have full results.

I think I read prior to the meet that this would be Allie O's first ever 5000 on the track, and since it shows a time for her, I'm thinking these are actual results from the race, and not some kind of prior PBs.

She has never run 5000. She may surpass her PR of 9:58 for 3200 en route.

Those times on the results page are seed times. Race is several hours away.

In NCAA XC she beat several girls that have run 15:4X on the track (think Alice Wright of UNM who finished 5th). So, if Allie were in top shape I'd think she would be sub-15:30. However, given that she hopefully had some down time after XC, I'm thinking she might be around 16 flat?

Sound reasonable?

So...do we know whether she is on thyroid meds yet like many of Coach Ihmel's other athletes at Boise?

15:21.85 Wow! Allie finishes second to Kim Conley 15:09. Crazy fast for her first 5K ever on the track.

reasonable guess, but I think you underestimated the basketball effect. Meaning, this is the first time that she has had sustained training (and through the winter). I'm an outsider with no clue, but that's my guess- she previously was "undertrained", and now we are seeing her talent level combined with training without a break for the winter.

i think she was around 5:00 flat at the mile, so definitely a neg split

I told you guys here a long time ago that the technology was moving to where individuals could upstream live an event. the next missing link is an adjunct to the youtube platform that will aggregate and collate all of the different view points, providing the content consumers the ability to assemble their personal multi-cam view.

#6 all time indoors- does she have a shot at Sisson's 15:12 this year?

That was a great race for Kim Conley (15:09) and Allie O (15:21). Would love to know Allie's last mile split as she seemed to be reeling Conley in slightly. It helped that Allie always had targets in front of her to pass as she and Kim lapped many runners during the last mile.

Two other BSU runners finished around 16:10. Very impressive. See if they can keep it up through indoor and outdoor.

Wonder if 15:21 is some sort of NCAA record? Like a freshmen record?

Just watched Allie O's 15:21. Indeed, it was impressive. Most impressive is her running form, which just seems very efficient and ideal for the marathon. I know its way too early to predict, but it seems like Allie is a possible future marathon star.

I think she was ~11:44 with 1200 to go...so that's ~3:37 over the last 1200? 4:48 mile pace....might have that wrong, but seemed to be around there
