Equally as impressive was Dunbar. Surprised to not see o'lionaird finish higher. Levins and Osako looked like they were not completely fit and/or rusty. 800 otc guys looked shockingly BAD.

Solid race! Surprised it wasn't a bit faster overall however. Maybe I'm uneducated but listening to that interview, wouldn't you want more definite plans as to what you're training for? He didn't know if he was gonna run 800 or 1500. Or if he was gonna run worlds.

How fast is this if he ran the whole mile?

It's definitely better than most rust busters, that's for sure. Americans, though, tend to think someone is back when they run 3:38 - 3:40.

Keep in mind that an American high schooler ran 3:39 in 1964.

But I DO, indeed, hope he has a great season.

At first I didn't think it was that significant, but the turns probably make him a tad slower too because of his large stature. I'd say this was a solid performance, but not ground-breaking.

It's a rust buster. I say he's back. He's a nice personable guy who even runs local XC races without attitude. It'd be cool to see him in Rio 2016.

Imagine Wheating versus Kiprop in the 1500 heats. He'd be like Andre the Giant compared to Kiprop. PS: No one is beating Kiprop. He's the lock for 2016.

Speaking of running fast early and bonking out later in the season...

How is it that athletes are in such great shape now, and undoubtably want to peak for the Olympic Trials. We've seen a 1:45 for 800, sub 3:40's... Not peak performances but still reasonably fast for this time of year.

Are these athletes doing speed year round? It it their years running and mileage base (along with genetics) that allows them to do this?

I've noticed coaching HS that kids tend to peak after 6-8 weeks of introducing intervals. Obviously they are adolescents so there are many variables here. But can you do speed year round and not crash and burn?

If so is it the intensity/speed of the interval? The volume of intervals? The frequency of how often you do them?

How is it sprinters are on the track working hard every day?

Is that a joke? Symmonds is too busy misleading track fans to boost himself. He'll never run that fast again and should be banned from the sport for intentionally deceiving everyone about the USATF just to get more gum sales.
