I have a serious question about peaking. How do you workout the week before your big race (counties, states,AOC,etc.)? My coach has my team doing workouts up to 4 days before the big race then we just do some long runs.

General rules: 1) Make sure you're fresh/ready to go for the race 2) Make sure you don't do too LITTLE and "forget how to run" 3) Make sure you're mentally ready
You're an 800 runner, aren't you?
no im a 3k runner
For peak race on Saturday:
Tuesday: last workout, emphasis on speed rather than strength
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 30 minutes easy, 4-6x200
Friday: 30 minutes easy, strides
I've had 4 GREAT COACHES in my life...Kieth Rogers, Gerard Lemieux, Al Tarpenning and Cap'n Myron. They all would give us the same prep a week before the Race. 7 days before we'd do a hard workout...like an 1100/600 at mile pace with a 4 minute rest if it was the Mile we'd run. Followed by an easy run of, like 7 miles. 5 days before we'd do another relatively hard workout...like 2-3 x 400 in 62ish with a good rest between each rep. Followed by another easy run...maybe 5 miles. 3 days before it would be something like 3 x 200 in 27-28...rest unimportant. Next day would be an easy 5. Two days to go would be easy with maybe 4-5 striders. Day before, maybe like a very easy 2-4 miles...or nothing at all, just stretch. By doing this we kept our fast twitch muscles primed and recover all of our energy for the big Race.
