What would you have to run in the 800m upwards to consider going full time?
Depends where you are in your career. High school, College, Post College...
1:46, 3:36, 13:25 are the 800-5k standards for Rio from the IAAF. To "go pro" you'll want to be near those to maximize sponsorship funds. I'd look at European meet results in your event(s) and see where you stack up and also think about how much faster you and your coach know you can run. If you run longer events on the roads frequently, then look at the USARC series and see if you could carve out a name for yourself there.
Also, performances aside, you'll want to be as active as possible on social media. A number of "pro's" are earning / keeping their sponsorship $ due to their online presence.
Best of Luck.
Thanks for your input, anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?
It depends on individual situations but I agree with the poster above.
1:47-8, 3:40, 13:45, 29:00 I would want to be under those times to consider going pro.
But just out of college, get a part time job, and chase the dream:
1:50, 3:42, 14:00, 30:00.
