It is possible to run in them. Many times in my training group they are used to alleviate stress to the achilles when it is inflamed.
MF
Is this a running related problem or do you have a short man's complex?
funny someone throws an "MF" in there...anyways, i have been wearing heel lifts due to recent achilles problems and it definitely helps alleviate pain walking around. i haven't run in almost a week but i will post back when i am able to start back up again and let ya know how it went. if you are wearing them because you have achilles problems, good luck, i feel your frustrations. take it easy.
First of all, why are you considering using them? Any specific injury?
As for me, I have had several re-current calf pulls over the past year ( since I've gotten back into running after a long break) Each time I am out from 3-6 weeks. A Doctor specializing in sports medicine told me that due to the excess daily pounding my calves take, along with my age, my calves do not recover quick enough from all the micro tears and eventually pop! He recommended half-inch heel inserts (made of felt) to raise my heel, which in turn transfers the pounding from the calf to the lower quads-which can handle the pounding. I alternated using them at first but am now using them on all my runs. My stride & form took some getting used to but I am now totally accustomed to it. Now I actually land more mid-foot whereas before I was a heel striker.
It's too early to tell if this is going to be a success but, so far it seems to be working!
Good Luck!
