If ches gets citizenship, will he make the team? What event?

No he will not.
He will get 3rd spot in the 5k over Rupp. Rupp will concede his best shot is to run the 10k only for the Olympics.
Sam Chelanga got his citizenship last August and he has been in the USA since 2006, has an American wife, & an American child.
I would be surprised if Edward got his citizenship in 2016. If his path to citizenship follows the same timeline as Sam, he would get it sometime in the summer of 2019.

He won't. He'll be 72 next year.
Darned African age-cheaters...
Yeah why not? Trials tend to be sit and kick races and Ches is a pretty darn good kicker. Imagine the 5k....it's tactical. Rupp takes control with a mile to go and closes in 4:05. Ches could do that. So could True, Hill, Mead and maybe a couple other guys, but I'd like Ches's chances coming down the last 150m or so with all those guys. I think a tactical 10K final would only increase his chances of making the team.
Two reasons why he might:
1. He finds himself in a relatively slow sit-and-kick type 5K or 10K, and with 300m to go he is in great position, then he has a very good chance.
2. He might be able to place top 3 in a fast race as well. My guess is that Ches is ready to significantly drop his 5K and 10K PRs this year. IF so, THEN he also has a good chance of top 3 in an 'honest' fast-from-the-start 5K or 10K as well.
If he does get his citizenship, and he isn't barred for 2 years from international competition due to said change, he would make the team in something. No doubt. 5000 or 10000, or both. They are always tactical and I just don't see him getting outkicked by more than 1 or 2 people.
Yes. Ches would make the team in the 5k and 10k if he so chose.
The real question is- could he make the 1500 team??
What about the marathon???
I can see him making it in the 10k. The US has a pretty strong field in the 5k right now. It's 10k talent is really stretched thin on the other hand.
Yes, I think he has a very good chance to get on the team. Like Lomong, he's a guy who gets the job done. His trajectory has continued to improve and he's got a wide range.
NO, he will not.
He is not fast enough in any event entered.
Every time he ran an open race against the big boys, he got smoked.
Age cheating only works when you get to run against kids.
Didn't Cheserek a few years back JUST lose in a race against Lalang when he was in 3:33 / 13 flat shape and finishing top 8 or so in the Diamond League?
I think that's probably the most credible athlete Cheserek has faced. If he's improved much since then (which he probably has) he will make the team comfortably.
Realistically - if he hasn't been training flat out and can increase his training in 2016/2017 when he leaves UO then he's possibly the new Mo Farah. He only got good at 28 as well right? (Jokes)
MY DOG IS MORE OF AN AMERICAN.
LOL at the Oregon haters the Ducks will sweep both indoors and outdoors this year and most likely next as well then the Oregon haters will really be out in full force. GO DUCKS BABY OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I doubt he'd make the team - his prs are apparently 13:18/28:30.
Is that right? It's from IAAF. Not exactly OG team level.
If those are right, I severely doubt he can be top 3 in either event unless they run 14 flat/29 flat and then luck will play a role.
Yes he will make the team because he will be running under 13 minutes for the 5k by then. Not many Americans can do that...

From what I understand, Ches applied in 2013, even with fast tracking, it is going to be close. Even if does gain citizenship, he has almost no chance in 1500 and only slightly better than a long shot in the 5K and 10K.
There is a difference between being an NCAA star to beating world class athletes.

13:10 will make the team.

So, an NCAA star cannot beat world class athletes until how many years separated from that stardom?
