Based on the time on the treadmill he ran 5:20 pace. Doesn't he seem unusually tired for having done that? Shouldn't that have been an easier run for him?
He said it was a steady run and when I was coached by somebody who ran with Salazar back at Oregon, he always used the term "steady run" and "cut down" interchangeably, which I think started from Dellinger. So there's a chance that while he averaged 5:20 pace for the whole thing that he probably started out a bit slower than that and cut down below 5 minute pace for the past few miles. I could be completely wrong but that's just my guess.

It's called cumulative fatigue. He was tired before he started the run. You've never been there?
We have no idea how tired he is from other training he may have been doing.

Did you ever try running 11 1/2 mph on a treadmill for an hour?
Try running 9 1/2 mph on one for an hour. Then look at yourself in the mirror afterwards.
Always found treadmill running a lot harder, but for a guy that has run 26:46 and 2:08 he doesn't look especially good and 5:20, although not a walk in the park for anyone, should be a typical above average distance day workout for a guy that can hold sub 5 for over 2 hours.
Is that his altitude tent behind him on the right?

Could be out of shape. Could be playing it up. Could be massively fatigued from his training the previous days/weeks leading in.
Good thing he's not running the world indoor champs in his backyard. That wouldn't be good for his confidence. Better he have say so over a weak field.
Funny how this comes out just as Bekele says that Farah can't break his records. I guess Bekele was right.

Yeah, it's not like he just won bragging rights over the world again 4 months ago or anything. And wouldn't it be horrible if he gasp... prioritized training towards the Olympics over world indoors. Runners these days, I just can't get why they want to be successful.
On a treadmill this early in his season is impressive. Also, its a distance run, not a workout.
For me, I notice if I'm just going for distance run, its much harder to hit paces that usually seem easy in a workout or race because its a just a run, not quality. Idk how to explain it better.
