See this all the time. Doesn't really matter the age - I'll go into any sit down restaurant (not necessarily nice) but if there's any guy wearing a cowboy hat it's staying on.
I wouldn't care much except for the generality that guys wearing cowboy hats are usually complaining about how society is going to hell' and how no one respects traditional common courtesies.

I was thinking that if he recognizes the steak as one he may have had a romantic relationship with, he can take his hat off in remembrance. If the hat is already off, the moment is lost.
Because there's no place to hang their hat. Hats are big and often take up a seat at the table if it's sat down.
In many places in the south and southwest, the steak houses and diners have a hook in the booth to hang the hat. But most places don't. No place to hang the hat, it stays on the head. Simple as that.
Because their reptile brains would get cold and shut down.

Leave it in the car, put it on your knee or check it at the counter. Not to mention, I've been to restaurants that have hooks (Sizzler to name one) and the hat is always on.
If you watch old westerns, they always take their hat off...why the change?

In the movies, it's an actor portraying a cowboy, in the Sizzler it's some douche in a cowboy hat.
They take their hats off if they're eating beans.
