Alright guys, I am a junior in high school that runs XC in the fall and Track in the spring. I am very informed on running but need help on building a base phase and have a few questions. I feel I lost a little speed over cross country (which is expected) so during my base I want to increase my explosiveness through weights and sprints, but also maintain my aerobic base for the winter. WITHOUT OVERTRAINING. I have been given advice on these things but I need info on how to strategically place them in order so I don't wear myself out. I want to include:
- Good base miles, amount?
- Weights (heavy squats, lunges, RDL's, etc), how many times a week? on what days? any other exercises you suggest? upper body?
- Plenty of core and hip work.
- Very small sprints after runs (5x50 meters), what days?
- tempo runs needed?
- and last but not least. pylos? how many times a week? what exercises? and what day?
Best 3 mile is 16:55 in XC with minimal summer training. Last year 2:10 800 with no training or XC. Looking to run sub 2 this year. Thanks!
