2016 might be his best shot at Olympic gold. At this point in his career, what has he got to lose in mixing it up? Hear me out:
-He already has a silver medal
-Even he must know he will lose to Mo Farah if he stays the course
-Many East Africans have had success with skipping the indoor season or running just a few races
Build a wicked base, be totally fresh, and have JUST enough to sneak by Farah in the last 100 of the 10k. Could be the smartest coaching move of all time.
Just do it.
Maybe a race or two. But indoor season isn't important, a lot of Olympic medalists skip it.

The world indoor championships are definitely important. It's a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP and the big names do show up. Farah couldn't even get a medal the last time he competed there. Not not a gold medal. Not a medal at all.
I like the idea of skipping it, because he won't have to peak twice in the same year.
World indoor championships are in Portland so I would think he wants to run it. I would enjoy seeing him do the 10k/marathon double in the Olympics though.

Yes. He should skip the indoor season to run the IAAF XC meets in Europe and the one in Kenya.
Rupp's tactical failures are due to under-racing, not over-racing.
He should definitely race indoors (against real competition and not college runners).
