I'm racing x-c club nats next weekend; race is around 1 p.m. In the last several years, after I started doing all my running first thing in the morning before eating, I've gotten really susceptible to side-stitches if I try to race on anything *other than* an empty stomach. My rudimentary exercise phys. knowledge tells me that there's no reason to risk a side-stitch by eating the day of the race -- I'll have plenty of muscle and liver glycogen to get through a 10k. But all the same, I've never raced this late in the day without eating first. Thoughts? Would skipping breakfast and racing off a (roughly) 15-hour fast be problematic? Thanks in advance.
