Lots of talk about how all of them are Brits and transfers so can some one clear this up? How many new transfers did New Mexico get this year and how many were in the scoring top 5?
This is college sports now... So, no harm no foul, just curious.
Stark contrast from Colorado and Wetmore though!
How do transfers make a win "empty"? How is it any different than recruiting like Colorado? (It's not)
How often does a freshman recruit lead a team? Like a transfer does, especially one that was 2nd NCAA steeple?
In terms of 4-4 transfers, they had 3 in the top 7 and 2 in the top 5. Auckland doesn't really count since any US University was welcome to recruit and sign her.
Renfer and Thornburg were both 5th year transfers from an Ivy League school so they had no option but to transfer if they wanted to use their remaining eligibility. Made perfect sense to go to UNM given the success Samantha Silva had there.
Frerichs transferred after her coach left her current university for a job at UNM. Made sense not to mess with what's worked for her on an Olympic year. I believe somewhere I heard she considered going to Colorado. Doubt Wetmore would have turned her away.

It happens fairly often. But so what? A transfer shouldn't be allowed to lead a team if they were a NCAA steeple 2nd placer?
Minnesota did it with purely in state talent. That would be better than your example of Colorado.
But this isn't high school (even they have transfers) with district lines, it's college. The best recruits win.
How can these senior transfers be eligible via Progress Toward Degree requirements?
Typically transferring schools makes you lose credits.
Is UNM that academically weak?

Did what, finish in the bottom half of the field?
In these days of colleges making fame and fortune from college athletics, I have no problem with football players or runners leaving a college and going to another.
It's usually only after a student/athlete arrives on campus do they come to know if it is a good fit. Let's not make student/athletes indentured servants in this land of the free.

Ok, so they get 1 year of grad school paid for (5th year eligibility); who pays for their 2nd year of grad school (eligibility is exhausted)?
There are a number of ways to do this:
1) parents or loans.
2) they go to a program that is not all that serious that they can finish in one year. By and large, one year masters are seen as worthless.
3) they start the summer semester following graduation (on scholarship) and take classes the summer semester after graduation (on scholarship). That's 4 semesters. They may be done or may have a class or two left and are able to finance it through parents, loans, other scholarships, etc.
I'm a little surprised UMKC let her transfer. Typically a scholarship athlete isn't allowed to transfer out of conference without sitting out a year and losing a year of eligibility unless the school signs a waiver. Unless she had finished her degree at UMKC.

Ms Frerichs graduated from UMKC and could have attended any university she chose via NCAA policy and not sat out.
