Leave a gap so that she can be photoshopped in later if necessary. Use a cardboard cutout to get the spacing right.

You need to get your OWN family portrait done. Include her for your own picture. Make sure you book the same photographer and have everyone come over to your place immediately after to repeat the same routine.

Make sure you tell your mom that you want her to wear something nicer than what she wore for her own pictures.

Put a ring on it, problem solved.

You even define it in a non-committal way, live-in-girlfriend as opposed to "long term girlfriend" or "someone I am in a committed relationship with".

If "We have lived together for seven years!" is true, then marry her already. What's wrong with you? What's wrong with her? She should have dumped you long ago. It's time to grow up.

My son and his gf have lived together for 9 years. I would like to see them married, but it's their lives, not mine. She's family as far as I'm concerned.

I don't really see any meaningful difference between getting married, and simply agreeing to spend your lives together. With no fault divorce, marriage can barely even be considered a contract anymore. "I do" is only very marginally more binding than "let's live together."

See this is what happens when people are allowed to try to force their definitions of family on others.

If it's important enough to you, just tell your mom that you will not be attending if your family is not invited.
