Just broke 16 for 5k and I have been getting a lot of attention and hate from people telling me I am too skinny, which is a result of being able to run fast. I eat but people tell me i am anorexic..anybody else get this being fast and how do you deal with looking so skrawny despite being able to kick 99% of people's butt in runs?
I decided to get a sports hernia and gain 10 lbs.
Not that I recommend that course for you.

if you are and you haven't lost your period because you are not eating enough, you step close to them, look them in the eye, and tell them either, nicely, to mind their own business, or not so nicely, to bugger themselves with a pineapple

I'm a woman so I hear it all the time. I ignore it except when it's my family -- them I tell to go look at some people who are actually anorexic and see how obvious the difference is. Sure I'm skinny, but I'm fit. Still, it gets old hearing about how I need to eat more etc. This is kind of the flip side of how to deal with anorexia in the sport -- I understand the concern, but at some point we need to stop focusing so much on people's weight

I am a guy. I am fit and skinny but i hate the judgement people give me when they see me walking around aka NOT running, not knowing i am a runner, assuming i am an anorexic. do all fast runners deal with this at some point? even the elites? it discourages me
No, we do need to focus on people's weights, just the other way around. All those fat slobs out there are jacking up healthcare costs and ruining this country. We need to start shaming the fatties. I'd rather have a country that is 40% anorexic than one that is 40% obese.
Since the majority of persons are overweight and getting fatter even normal weight people will appear too thin. I have been told by multiple persons I was too thin at a BMI of 24.

If you are a guy, your problem is not that you are skinny(which you may be) but that you are not fast.

You deal with it by not telling anyone you run. Stop bragging and they won't notice.
I deal with it by not giving a f*ck about what other people think. Works pretty well.
Channel that hatred into the 800 meter dash.
Where you gonna run the 800m dash ever 30? There's maybe one big 800m race per year.
For strangers, tell them you have cancer and treatments are going well. Then walk away

Tell them you're hardcore. Tell them you're an artist (a la Pre) and you're willing to pay the price for your art.

Now that the IAAF is about to implode we can finally form the People's Track League and every track in the country will have one meet a week.
Each meet will have 3 track events: one sprint, one MD, one LD. Hand timing allowed, and no officials necessary but must be backed up by quality video, sent with results to the national organization for verification. All valid results published on the league website, for free with few ads.
Entry fees, if any, determined by local chapters but capped at $5. No organization necessary - you can even run three solo TT's, upload the results and it's a valid People's Track League event, as long as the timing is accurate.
Power to the People! I thought this up as a joke but maybe it would work!!!
I guess you have to decide if running fast is more important than what other people think. Apparently you are sitting on the fence.
Competitive running is not normal for 99 percent of the population. So of course you are going to get this reaction from the masses.
I put in some serious effort a few years back to have one last hurrah just before my daughter's birth. I lost some decent weight and was running good times (for me) and looking forward to a few more good races. This guy I worked with had the classic male pattern baldness, serious comb-over, never exercised anything but the beer grip, paunchy stomach, smoker look going on. He had the balls to tell me he thought I looked bad. Took is as, five more pounds and I'm probably right where I want to be.
Stick with the mid-distances bro. You can be ripped AND fast.
