do you ever get paranoid running in a race with people behind you?

During the NYCM last weekend I had a bout of paranoia when I realized there were about 40,000 people behind me running that I could not see. Kind of freaked me out for a few minutes.

Then it got me wondering. When else in life are we ok with people being in close proximity to us, behind us, where we can't see them?
