Jared Ward graduated from school at 27???
What the hell
can someone even compete in the NCAA as a 26-27 year old?
(lets skip the inevitable ches jokes)

Yes, if you read the article, he has a master's in statistics!
Whatever the case, Ward really seems on his game.
He didn't run for two years due to a mission trip and got back too late to enroll in fall classes, so he was probably about 25 when he exhausted his eligibility.

He's a Mormon, so he served a mandatory(ish) two year mission, starting at 18. So there's at least 20 as a Freshman. Additionally, he has a master's, so that puts him at 24-25 as a graduate, after which he got his Master's, so there's 26-27. I'm also not really very sure which years he competed at BYU, so he could have very well been 26 and competing at NCAA meets. Finally, he actually lost a year of NCAA eligibility due to a fluke rules violation (http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/cougars/57130097-88/ward-ncaa-byu-cross.html.csp) that he successfully gained back and used. As such, his NCAA career was a bit more lengthy than most. Hope this helps!
