I know that Nike pays expenses for qualifying team and coach but does anyone know how individual qualifiers are handled? I am sure the athletes are paid for but does Nike pay for an accompanying adult? Since almost all the qualifiers are under 17 I would think it is unlikely they would travel alone but wasn't sure how cost is handled.
Nike pays for the athlete only. Parent/Coach pay for themselves. Also, depending on your state, you may have to pay for all the swag they give the kids. Or they can return it.

Nike is not allowed to pay for any of the parents travel costs. Some athletes fly by themselves even if they are under 17. The athletes on the east coast depart their airport very early in the morning on Thursday. The parents may choose to go out on a later flight Thursday or Friday due to work schedules or other reasons. Parents of others may buy their own tickets on the same flight. Nike has people at the Portland airport to pick up the athletes. They have someone assigned to the individual qualifiers throughout the period. Tony Jones from il.milesplit.com is there for the Midwest individuals every other year.
Foot Locker does arrange for a very good discount for the parents at the hotel. There was no cost for the movie screening for the parents. Bus transportation was provided for parents to the course preview the day before the race, the movie, and the race.
Actually, East Coat NXN qualifiers leave on Wednesday early and are now among the first to arrive in Portland on Wednesday afternoon. Not sure if last year was the first year Nike started doing this for the East coasters but it was good for them. Otherwise, leaving on Thursday they arrive too late and exhausted to enjoy all the perks (and not to mention have less time to acclimate to the three hour time zone difference).

Thanks for the correction. I forgot about the Wednesday departure for the east cost runners last year. There are many perks at NXN and Foot Locker.
