While I know quite a few hobby joggers who will be able to get in via 2:45, there will be a lot fewer women to get in that way.

Just saw this yesterday, as my wife and I were interested in running Berlin 2016. I have the standard by a good chunk of time, but my wife's 3:13 is apparently not up to snuff. We'll have to enter as a team and hope for the best, unfortunately.

When I first saw these standards, I thought the same thing... the 3 flat standard for women seems to be a much tougher benchmark than the 2:45 for men.

NYRR made the same mistake a few years ago. They basically set the guranteed entry to 75% across the board. Which basically meant 2:45 for 18-39 men, 3:00 for 18-39 women if I recall correctly. They adjusted it since and now the difference is 20 min (2:53 vs. 3:13) and the gap increase significantly at advance age. E.g. 50-55 is 3:14 vs. 3:51 (37 min gap !!!!).
I'd love to sign up and thanks for posting this but airfare right now is just too rich for my blood. $1400 t/f Berlin when it used to be around $350??? Too bad.

Lottery results are out today and, unfortunately, we didn't get in! Bummer.
I imagine the auto entries will be adjusted in the next year or so. For frame of reference (going on 2014 results), 3:00 would earn you 45th place for women. 2:45 would earn you 310th place for men. Just a tad off! Good luck to any/all that got in and will compete in September.
