I know Khannouchi had some fast 5k's.

Rod Dixon: 3:53 mile, 2:08:59 marathon
Greg Meyer had a 3:38 or so, and ran 2:09 flat at Boston '83.
I think John Tuttle has run under 4 min. I know he was a 1:50 800m runner at Auburn back when Auburn was the bomb. War 2e can fill in more info here.
Cheers!
Emiel Puttemans also ran very fast over short distances(3:53 mile and a two mile record?) as well as sub 2:10.
Keith Brantley is one of few.

Greg was the first man from Mich to break 4 in the mile when he went 3:59 indoors.
Haile Gebrselassie easily has the best 1-2 punch here with a 3:31.76 indoor 1500 and a 2:06:35 marathon. No other 3:31 guys are even close to a 2:06 marathon and no 2:06 marathoner is even close to a sub-3:50 mile equivalent. This topic is now closed to further discussion unless women become its focus.
Surely Al Sal did it? Lopes ran a 3:42 1500 and Jones was about 4:00.1 So near..
I believe Rod DeHaven has a 3:40 1500 PR and has run 2:11
Todd Williams & Paul Cummings? J. Tuttle ran I believe 4:01 with a 2:10:51. How about Mark Coogan sub 4 with a 2:13:05. Geoff Smith 3:5? & 2:09. There are tons of them out there.
Paul Cummings had a 3:37 1500, a 3:56 (I believe, maybe 3:55)mile, and a 2:11 marathon.
Abel Anton: two-time world champ...2:07:57 and 3:37.50 15 to boot.
Not a whole lot of guys have done the real deal. Sub 4, sub 2:10. Jonny Halverstat (spelling - south american, now U.S. citizen) is another one who has done the real deal.
Good one. John (Johan)Halberstadt. South African, not South American. Ran at Oklahoma State.
how bout culpepper?

Wow, looks like you could make an argument for Dixon trailing only Geb. Pretty amazing after all these years.
On the women's side, it looks like Sonia O'Sully will soon be the best with a 3:59 1500 PR and soon to be sub-2:25 (one would think).
One would think Paula could run very close to 4 if she trained for it, but who knows. Maybe she's very close to maxing out at her 8:22 pace (well, she's run what, 4:06?)
Mark Carroll
John Treacy
Paul Davies Hale
Eamon Martin
Vincent Rousseau
A few more guys who have, Rousseau must have one of the best combintaions, he ran a 2.07 marathon and about 3.55 for a mile
mark coogan made an olympic team at the marathon (perhaps 2?), and has run sub 4.
Thanks for the clarification HRE. It was late...
