I think it's kind of degrading to the athletes when people refer to other runners and say, "Oh, he's a 4:05 guy," as if that's all there is to it - that one label can some up his entire career and even his life as a person. It's usually misleading anyway, like, as someone stated on another thread, Bekele is officially a "7:30 guy" even though obviously he can run faster. I'm sure Bekele would laugh if someone, in reply to the question "Who is Bekele?" said "Oh, he's a 7:30 guy." I think it's a lot better to say "Oh, he's run 7:30, but he has three world records, a WC and an Olympic gold, and hasn't run the 3000m much." I would rather someone not call me a "4:20 guy" because there is a lot more to my career than running one simple time - lots of training, hardships, and accomplishments in addition to that. The difference in saying "he's run 4:10" and saying "he's a 4:10 guy" is huge to me.
