It will be announced in a couple of days from sources close to Salazar. What does everyone think about his potential?

A marathon or the Olympic Trials Marathon? Could change the whole trials picture...
Based on this year's performances? Nothing good or exceptional. 2:08 or slower.
If we all could be so slow.

If that's true, I take it as a sign that AlSal thinks Rupp's best years on the track are behind him.
I predict he runs slower than Salazar.

2:08 sounds over optimistic to me.
He will be the fastest 26.2 guy you yankee doodles have ever had. Not that you deserve it for the amount of negative vitriol you through his way.
Probably not a 205 or 206 guy - if you can run a 350 mile you probably aren't going to be a top 10 in the world marathoner. I know Dixon did it, but that is an exception.
I'd say 207 or 208 for the marathon. Which is darn good, but not American record material.

Agree. He will be the best American marathoner as soon as he runs one. He has shown he is strength oriented. 3:50 speed and 26:44 strength, and a 60:30 half 4 or 5 years ago showing that his strength extends more than 10k.
I would predict a 2:05:low on a legitimate course like London or Chicago, though he'd probably run NYC as his first (unless he is running the trials).
I so hope this is true and not trolling. Nothing would make me happier from a running-fan perspective than for Galen to do the Trials marathon.
2:10:01
2:07:30 because he's a "slow poke"
I think if he runs a few and stays healthy he could break the American Record.
This is no doubt a troll. But, if it is true, I expect galen somewhere sub 2:06
Extreme Troll
8/10
There was previous talk of this before the 2012 Olympics. If I recall correctly, Salazar stated Rupp would not run a marathon until after the 2016 Olympics. I could see him debuting in NY, for the right amount of $$$. The subject came up after his run at the NYC Half in I believe 2011. Sounds very plausible.
it is really hard for me to think of Rupp debuting faster than Mo.

Lots of people slower than Mo at 1500-10000 debuted faster than Mo at the marathon. Maybe that's exactly why Rupp might be faster...the type of runner he is.
A few posters have stated hope the Rupp runs the Marathon Trials. How would he qualify for said event? Are they assuming he goes out and runs a qualifying half soon? Nothing in the qualifying standards about a 10,000 time or reigning US National champ...or running for Nike.

You dumb individual. His qualifying would be 'hello I am Galen Rupp', great your in kid, NEXT....,,,,,
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
