A knee injury has put an end to my competitive running, so I've gotten into road cycling. After 3 months, I can hang with the local CAT 3s on their training rides.
What are the rough equivalents of say, track 5k times to cycling Categories?
i.e.
the Pros are like 13:xx with the freaks 12:5x?
CAT 1 are the 14:00?
CAT 3 are like 15:00 5kers???
One interesting thing I have noticed about cycling is how much more forgiving it is to both age and body type.
Some of these tough old roadies in their 40s and 50s can kick my ass, whereas that would never happen in running. FYI i'm 29, 5k PR 14:20
Similarly, some body types that look VERY unimpressive can hammer on the bike, whereas in running, once you get to a certain level, you can almost tell by looking at someone if they're fast or not.
