Wow
If you red-shirt a healthy athlete, they almost always get hurt when it's time to use that final season of eligibility, or so it seems.
This is assuming Ches will even be around in NCAA and not already a pro by then.

They have to be careful with Futsum. He's 30 now.
i know it's awesome to be a selfless teammate and I applaud him for that if it is the case, but when you're the #2 returning XC runner in D1 NCAA, you don't effing worry about your team to taht extreme because you have potential career goals to attend to.i think this is a huge mistake, but I hope i'm wrong.

The truths hurts. LOL
Older guys like Futsum need careful handling to avoid injuries.
So he's not injured. Does not have academic problems. He's taking off for the sake of being a fifth year Senior?
Let me guess. He came back out of shape and didn't run over the summer.
an article on flotrack said they think they have a better chance for team success in the 2016 season, so he's getting to wear red clothing this yearhere's the article (not clothing) for you to read:http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/252374-Cross-Country-Season-on-FloTrack-2015/article/35648-NAUs-Futsum-Zienasellassie-Will-Redshirt-2015-XC-Season#.VgHrQMtVhBc"Zienasellassie, who was third at NCAA XC last fall, is not injured but has decided to sit out this fall since the Lumberjacks are not expected to compete for a podium spot in 2015 after finishing top-4 the last three seasons. Coach Eric Heins believes his program will be much stronger in 2016 as some of the younger runners gain experience this season. Fellow senior Nathan Weitz (118th NCAA XC ’14) will also sit out this fall for similar reasons."

who are you writing to, "wishing idiots farewell"?unless you know the runners/coaches involved at the school personally, we're not ignorant. (See article below) If you do know more, please enlighten us, little fella.http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/252374-Cross-Country-Season-on-FloTrack-2015/article/35648-NAUs-Futsum-Zienasellassie-Will-Redshirt-2015-XC-Season#.VgHrQMtVhBc

I actually think this is a more calculated individual move. He has placed 3rd and 4th. What will 2nd do for him? He is probably taking the chance that Ches may not be running next year and he can go for the win.
Does Futsum feel odd being 30 and still an undergrad?
