Trolling, but Bekele doesn't need to run either of those times, mainly because HE RAN 12:37.35 AND 26:17.53.

Point taken, buttcheecks. However given Mo's performances in the over/under distances I don't think it's implausible for him to challenge the 5000m/10000m records set by Bekele.

Because that's not the way Mo runs. When Bekele ran fast times he did it on his own. When was the last time Mo just ran away from the pack going after a time? Oh yeah, never.

If Bekele had been drafting could he have run sub 26? Drafting makes a huge difference, at least it does for me. In solo workouts I run my mile repeats in 5:20. In group workouts when I get to sit behind someone for 4 laps the 5:20s become 5:10s.
I always find it funny that people refer to a 3:28.8 as a 3:28 in order to exagerate the actual performance.
And no Ventolin, he isn't worth 3:27 flat before you join the party amigo.
Given Bekele has a better 10km and marathon than Farah how can you even remotely doubt that he would run a better half than Farah? In his prime as you say obviously.

The guy who holds the half marathon WR is the same guy that Bekele used to beat up on the track & cross country (except for DNF Mombasa). Had Kenenisa trained for a HM in his prime then the WR would have been in the 57 minute range.
Kenenisa is his prime would have been able to match or beat Mo from 3000m & up. Past prime Kenenisa actually beat PRIME Farah on the road & established a much better PR on his 1st marathon......It's not that hard to imagine that Kenenisa in his prime would have blown Mo's doors off.
It remains to be seen whether Farah will become a better marathon runner than Hall ever was. I think it's very likely that he will, but so far, Hall has both placed higher and run faster than Farah ( 2:08.21) several times.
It is also possible that Farah will remain focused on the shorter distances until the end of his career, and never run 2:05 or faster. In Rio, he will certainly have much better chances in the 5k/10k than the marathon, and he doesn't need a fast marathon time in order to command another huge appearance fee, if that's what he is after. And, if he is concerned about the GOAT status, I think he has a better shot at the 10k world record than at a marathon major title.

To me, it seems more likely that Mo could/would run a 5,000 WR than a 10,000 WR. That doesn't bode well for his chances at the top of the marathon. I can also believe, with never more than two good 10,000s any given year, the schedule of his other races will never give him the time to recover from a perfect effort in the 10,000.

Mo ran 2:08 on a bad day on his debut marathon. If Hall ran 2:08 the Letsrun boards would blow up.
Bekele might be a better marathoner than Mo currently but in a 10000m he would get destroyed. In a half I'd say they are evenly matched. In the great north run Bekele used superior tactics to beat Mo by gaining a huge lead on the downhill and Mo's speed wasn't enough to catch him at the end.

In the great north run, Bekele did not just use superior tactics. He was in complete better shape than Farah. He let Farah catch back up and then out sprinted him. He was playing with Farah.
Yes ,you are right Bekele was in better shape because he was well rested while Mo just finished doubling up at the world championship in Moscow
If they are both rested there is no way in hell can Bekele run away from Farah in half Marathon

OP. I like the title even if it's is misleading.. It helps American fans understand why Farah is so hard to beat on the track.
A few comments.
1) Of course Bekele could run 59:22. The last time I checked Bekele beat Farah at the Great North Run the one time they raced. He ran 26:17 for 10,000 and debuted at 2:05:04 in the marathon.
2) As for being a better marathoner than Hall, I would certainly take Farah in a heads up race but Hall has 3 times run faster than Farah's 2:08:22 pb.

Mo is really boring to watch compete. And then the mobot thing is probably the most annoying thing in sports at the moment. Take any annoying touchdown dance that's been done throughout the years and multiply it by 10 and you have the mobot (or whatever it's called).

He's the 5k/10k favorite. The marathon would be the real test. Imagine the Olympics with Mo's story and the drama of the triple. Mo would be one of the Olympic GOATS. Not just on the track but the ENTIRE Olympics.
Hall has a mid-low 2:06 to his name.
Farah will need to run better than that to say he is actually a better marathoner (OR if at Boston, better than 2:04:57)
