I like the Supernova Comp as a lightweight trainer. But, the stability post is really pronounced, so try it on before ordering.
I believe I've heard some good things about the new Supernova Comp (out in Feb. 2005). Anyone care to elaborate?
I use it to race, especially longer distances because its a bit heavy and has pretty good cushioning and stability. It seems to me it would be a great lightweight trainer if that's your bag.
i got them at the adidas outlet nearby, so they were only 20 bucks...im gonna give them a run on the track tomorrow so I can still return them to the store if i don't like them.
yes, the medial post is very pronounced
I got a pair of the old style at an adidas outlet about a month ago for $45. Looks like I'll need to stop back if they're down to $20!
the adidas supernova comp IS NOT a good lightweight trainer. it may be a good trainer for a Gallowalker, but not good lightweight trainer for anyone. First the weight issue, it it very very heavy, putting it in the trainer category, its a racing flat and it cant even compete with the decent lightweight trainers. Second of all it was made for fat people who think they can race, thats why it has that huge posting. Also it has a hard rubber piece right on that posting, which completely stops the foot and doesnt let it do its natural thing, if you cut that peice off it isnt too bad, but i would check into something like the nike zoom elites, adios lightsrike, even the nike skylon before you venture into this shoe, unless of course you're fully happy with running john penguin bingham style.
Hey Hey,
I have to agree with you. If your looking for a good lightweight medial post trainer check out the Air streak II. The Air Zoom Elite is 10.4 ounces in a mens size 9, so I don't consider that very light weight. Plus it has just as thick padding most heavy highend trainers. The only reason it is lighter is because of the reduced leather overlays and rubber on the bottom, not to mention the soft foam and air bag.
im just wondering if they are considered a good shoe to use for transitioning in training in flats? you know something similar to the NB 900 or asics ds trainer. Seems like I am getting a no here though.
Would I be correct in assuming that something like the NB 900 or asics ds trainer would be a better choice?
Well, it doesn't seem like many people on here like them. Of course, people prefer to voice negative opinions of something much more than they like to praise them (not exclusive to letsrun, either).
I like them. They fit me well. Their ride was better suited to my stride than the DS-Trainer or NB 900. They're in the 10.x oz range, so they can certainly qualify as a lightweight trainer.
ghost racer,
the new SNova Comp should be much better -- esentially, an adidas "900".
Trackhead - can you give us some more specifics on the new version of the Supernova Comp? Weight, upper, midsole, etc. changes?
The supernova competition is one of many light weight stability training shoes. The critiria which make it good or not is based on personal opinion. It is designed to do the same thing as the nb900, zoom elites, air steak II, Mizuno wave mavericks, saucony grid swerve, and the list goes on. If you descibe what fit and feel you are looking for I could tell you which you might like the best.
Where are the adidas outlet stores in the east? Any in NC, VA, or MD?
The current rendition of the SNova Comp is noticalby taller than the 900. The new edition as a 10/20mm cut on it. That's about as much as I know -- I haven't had the chance to see it in person, but LaWoof told me that it's an excellent update.
i dont know how it could get any worse
so is this current model a no go?
would i be better off with the NB 900 or asics ds trainer
i actually got the asics ds trainer today, i think the adidas competition fits better than the asics ds trainer

The 2005 Supernova Comp rolls out 1-15-05 at specialty, has a much lower profile, and is light weight. The new comp dials in around 9+ ounces, and continues to be posted. The new Supernova Comp ($85 retail) is all new, from tooling, to upper, etc.
You will see is out very shortly. Note we also have a new 6 ounce jammin shoe rolling out 2Q called the adiZero ($75 retail)...and is most similar to the Cubato+.
Hope that helps
Mike
hey ghosty,
if your interested, I'm doing some quarters this afternoon at a nearby track. Weather is great, somewhere in the low 70s. If you're bored of the cold, come on out and we'll give those supernova comps a real run through.
If not now, maybe in the spring.
I've been running in a pair of Asics DS trainers for a few months now. I think thye fit and feel great. Theyre lower profile than most trainers which is why i chose them. i dont really worry about weight with trainers but theyre pretty light. I'm an efficient runner and weigh about 155 and 6 foot. I guess it really depends on your stride and body type though. I'll get another pair when these blow out.

Thanks Mike. Sounds like it will be a great update. I hope it will be as durable as the current version as well.
Does the adiZero mean the Cubato+ will be discontinued?
