Seriously? Props to her on an amazing race but this is a huge surprise:

Rupp (Medal favorite in 10,000 - has medaled before)

Jager (Big medal favorite)

Coburn (Big medal favorite)

Centro (Big medal favorite - has medaled twice before)

Simpson (Big medal favorite - has medaled twice before)

Rowbury (Medal favorite - has medaled before)

Martinez (I don't know about a favorite, but she medaled in 2013)

I am not taking anything away from Infeld, but the women's 10,000 this year was so weak compared to the men's 10,000, 1500 (women's too), and steeple with some of the all time greats in those respective events, and a ton of depth as well.

The US Distance team certainly did not bring home the medals many fans hoped/predicted before, especially after a good amount of medals from 2011-2013.

Hopefully next year in Rio we will see all of the favorites I mentioned above medal and the US can have more success than in 2015 in Beijing.

Biggest disappointment was US at 800 meters. Except for Ajee, the US women's contingent has aged out at just the wrong time. Likewise Solomon and Symmonds. Except for Ajee and Berian, the outlook for the Olympics depends on the maturity of the youngsters who have shown some promise as juniors.

In the 1500 and above it's not so much the US in decline, but the blitz of talent coming out of Africa. It's hard to be optimistic about 2016 in any event longer than 800.

emily did a great job...great things happen when you race 10000 meters and not 9995 meters....why do runners train...sacrifice...compete...then slow at tape? people do it over and over and over...don't get it

Brenda Martinez could medal again at the 1500, she needs to move up bigtime, she no longer has a kick/ the kind of speed you need for an 800.

The US has less than 5% of the World's population. So, anything better than that is a triumph. Sure, the US dope-positive-test-avoidance-techniques are good, because US investments in such are much better funded, but there is only so far those take the US on to glory!

I think this is a bit harsh, but I basically agree. I only had Jager and Simpson getting bronzes and I wasn't too sure about either one. Too much is made about Centro's tactical acumen. He's 2 seconds slower than the top 4 or 5 guys. It's certainly possible he and Rupp will medal next year but I wouldn't bet on it if they show their current form at Rio.

This was a bad race from Centro, not a matter of bad tactics (Unless he moved too hard from 1000-1200 to try to get in position); he was going backwards in the final 100m, something that he has never done before in a championship race.

Yes, one of the worst WC results in a while. In 2013, we won 4 medals. Props to Infeld. Biggest medal disappointments? The two steeplers and Martinez. You could argue the others had to face overwhelming competition but Jager and Coburn were on the same level as their competition and both wilted. Jager probably peaked a month ago. He couldn't have beaten Kemboi but at top form he could have medaled. Coburn didn't seem off-form, she just didn't make the winning move and chose to react to others' moves. In the end, she didn't have it. The women's 800 could have been the most winnable as the top 3 were not head and shoulders above Martinez, but she seems off-form.

I have been following Emily for past 6-7 year since she was a freshman at Georgetown. She always had a big kick, which she displayed in taking the bronze. Coming in her 3rd 10,000m track race and 7-8 months after her stress fractures, the USA's only medal over 400m (for either men or women) has to be very impressive.

And her sister Maggie was fast too and is now a physician.

Just how hot was the weather in Beijing? I hate to be the one pointing things out, but Americans are too busy trying to avoid doing hard workouts in the heat that it caught up to them here. Worlds take place in late July or August, the hottest time of the year in most of the northern hemisphere. While you might think it will be winter in Rio, it will still be in the high 20s to low 30s (Celsius) at this time of year. Way too often do Runners think it is a good idea to do their workouts shirtless when their peak race season is going to be in the summer. Acclimatize yourselves to the heat so that you won't suffer in it where it matters.

Emily was a girl who earned her medal, hyena racer lucky to get a medal.

Rupp was what he is ; a top five in the world runner; when his twins grow up, he will get better, Rio may be his time for another medal.

Huddle is a troubled girl, will have to figure her mind out.

Martinez is done, no more for her, can only fake it till you make it for so long .

Flanagan has aged out.

Manzano has aged out.

Centro does have to move up to the 5k. Quick but his life is comfortable...bad combination .

Jager is a big meet choker, no idea where he goes; probably a 7:58 in a solo time trial race, but no world medal ever ... Never had the regular challenge of ncaa. The apple is forming in his throat now for Rio ...

Burla, davila, etc, cannot change gears at the end of a race.... Cant double at the end of marathon races .

Meb, Hall, any other us 26.2's have to be able to drop 9:15 deuce at the end if a long day ....wont happen.

since Molly did all the work, would have won had she not slowed, and, most importantly, DID HER JOB by living up to her potential in that race, which is really what this thread is about.

This thread should also be expanded to include the sprinters, since they really choked too, many times.
