Nice to see! Probably because of the type of race it was. They are all able to close well in the last mile-k. I mean we qualified 3 in the final for the 1500 so that distance is one of our best right??
Too bad there is no such thing as a team competition.

There is, it's called cross country, but it's not held on the track...
Since this is track...
Ethiopia 11
Kenya 9
USA 9
Even if you somehow decided to score a track race xc style, you get three incomplete teams as it takes 5 to score. Some serious Jingo gerrymandering to put the US in front there.

Yes, we qualified three for the final in the 1500, AND the 3000sc, AND the 5000, AND the 10,000.
Kenya - silver medal
US - zero medals
Kenya wins

And how many medals have we gotten? Who cares. This isn't about making it to the finals. This isn't some youth swimming league, this is the world championships. I'm pretty sure you measure your success with a medal. If you're looking for moral victories, go watch some kiddie soccer league.

Wow, what a tough guy. How many medals do you have?
Here's another viewpoint to the same stat: ALL three Americans beat the ALL of the following hobbyjoggers:
Isiah Koech 12:48
Edwin Soi 12:51
Albert Rop 12:51
Imane Merga 12:53
Reason to be proud indeed.
There is such thing as team track. By the most common scoring Ethiopia would win, 11 to 10 to 9 to 9.

Yes, and True & Hill did it with very limited experience and Rupp did it off a double in that heat/humidity. That is quite impressive.
And for those trying to downplay this, sure the medal count isn't high, but it's the trend we are following and the trend is extremely positive and headed in the right direction.
For all those who have slammed Rupp or NOP, I think you have to give credit where it is due. This crew has broken many mental barriers and helped open the mental door of opportunity for many up and comers.

Wait, so someone has to be a World Championship medalist to post an opinion here?
Perhaps some people prefer the American results in this race?

No one disputes that there is Team track.. But Worlds is NOT a team track competition. I know in 2013, they scored "points" and the USA "won" the meet.
However, I don't think there is a trophy or other awards for the "team" win. No event is scored individually either.
The system to use is the IAAF Placing Table which assigns eight points to the first place and so on to the eight finalists (except teams that do not start or are disqualified).
It might be a relatively meaningless factoid, but its definitely an indicator that we're continuing to get better.
I still vividly remember 2003 when the US sent only ONE runner to the world championships in the 5000 (Jorge Torres) and that was because he was the one runner in the US with the B standard.
Thank god, we've come a long way.
This is tremendous progress to have such quality depth and all we need are a few guys to break through from this level and we'll have strong medal contenders on a regular basis above 1500m. Jager's not far from it, in a fast race--he cannot contend with the Kenyans in a kicker's race right now, Rupp has done it once and been close to medals a few times, and of course Lagat is on the down side and may not be there again. True has shown the courage and ability to go after the win before and has some impressive scalps. At the same time, as Centro said, going for the win is different than going for medals. The Kenyans and Ethiopians are usually going for the win and sometimes that costs them places at the end. Our guys don't often really go for the win, challenge for the lead in the last 400m, but are more conservative and go all out only the last 200m or even 100m in Manzano's case (with some success, obviously).

I know we still have the 1500m and 5k/marathon women to go, but overall I'm disappointed in the USA's showing in the distance events for both men and women..anyone else feel the same? If a medal or two can be grabbed tomorrow I suppose that'll help, but definely an underwhelming performance so far.
Haha comedy gold. Americans clinging to facts that make them feel better about themselves.
