Wow just wow, so these ethiopians and kenyans decide to transform a 5000m race into a 1000m race against a guy who has run under 3:29 for 1500m twice!
The only guy who kinda 'tried' was Ndiku and even then he tried too late with just two laps remaining. The ethiopians were never a factor in the race.
Final time was 13:50 with a blazing 2:19 last kilometer.
Seriously how can these guys come to the conclusion that it's better to pile 72 second laps than trying to run 62/3 all the way? It's really mind bogling to me!
The most unimpressive triple double I've ever seen, however I really can't blame Farah who actually has raced a hardish 10km 7 days before and just played to his strenght.
His competitors were really overestimating their own kicks, and didn't even try to get Farah out of his comfort zone. What a shame!
How to beat a 3:28 guy in a 5000m race? I know, lets run 15 minute pace for half the race!

Yes that's the easy thing to say and what i was initially thinking. I mean it's stupid. But what if you wrote a thread, "How to beat the 10k champ in a 5k, let it turn into a hard last 800?" That sounds quite sound.
Farah is basically unbeatable at 5k as he has great strength.
If Hagos tries to push it, then he loses out on the medal as Kejelcha beats him. These guys figure, "We aren't beating him anyway, i might as well medal."
I mean I asked Hagos why he let it go slow and he said they like their kicks. He was happy with third.
ANd he told me his 800 pb was 1:53!! Farah closed in 1:48 .8 so Hagos was likely 1:50 flat. -
Rojo i perfectly understand that Hagos is happy for a medal, he seems like a nice guy also. Also a guy who happens to have 12:48.
But we can start by saying that his old 800m pb really doesn't reflect his ability, much like what happened in the women 1500m race: Most of the women ran their 800m pr after a terribly slow 700m.
I also don't deny that Farah is capable of running close to 12:50 right now.
However it's much harder to outkick a guy like Farah and it's virtually impossible to box him given he he's a very savy and smart competitor.
It's also very hard to push the pace and drop Farah, but it's relatively easier compared to the other outcome.
But 15 minute pace for half the race? That's like a continuation of their warm up for 2,5 extra km. The pack looked like a mushroom for 8 laps, that's how close they were to each other!
Again a very unimpressive win, which we can only blame the competitors of Farah for.
I'm not saying I would push and I understand that it's easy to say push when I'm outside, but come on 15 minute pace?! Ridiculous. -

They should've taken off on him while he was on his water break, like what happened to him during one of his half marathons.

Seriously. The dude beats everyone that will race him. You can argue the talent is on the roads etc etc. but on the track Farah takes on all comers at every global championship and has won everything over and over again. Give him credit. -
Mo farah baby. Goat.
-
I don't believe HG was ok with losing. He beat Farah in a minor race this year, and he should have beat him in Moscow.
But when Ndiku went that far out, it sealed his fate. HG is faster than Farah in a sprint, but can't outlast him in an extended kick. Mo is so light he can just coast along and let everyone burn themselves out.
There are a few other elites who manage to cut a lot of weight without losing power or health, but not as much as Farah. The question is how. -
Against a cheater like Mo, you can't do anything. It will be years till the cocktails of drugs he's on is revealed, but revealed it will be.
-
What does this have to do with anything?

They tried to run the legs off him in the 10k and it didn't work. There was barging and tripping in the 5k heat. Their best option is to hope Farah makes a mistake like he did against Gebrewhet in the 3000m earlier this year. Like many have said, you can only beat Farah tactically. Anyone who thinks you can beat him in a fast race is a fool. Look at the stats.
-
You actually are helping my point. This unique triple double just proves that the competition was very weak or in this case very dumb. It was handed to him on a silver platter apart from the 10000m last week.
I hope you aren't implying that it proves that Farah is better than Bekele, otherwise there's no hope for you. Bekele actually was 4 times in a row 10000m champion in this case against actual smart and strong competition.
Again not really Farah fault, altough i openly admit that i don't like the guy in the least bit. -
I meant ''Farah's fault'' before some grammar nazis jump at me, instead of actually presenting valuable input.

What stats??? No one has ever tried to run a fast race against him since before 2011. It's always a slow race. His competition is completely stupid. Unless you have 3:28 1500m ability, don't try to outkick him off of a slow pace! I don't understand what these guys are thinking. The obvious best chance too beat him is a fast pace. -
I think that says it all, you just don't like Farah. When he runs a really fast performance, top 2/3 all time, then you will understand.
-
Bekele was running in a time of EPO. The 5000m todays convinces me that there is less doping today than a decade ago.

BW, I think you've hit upon something critical here. Can you post height weight, and exact bodyfat percentages for all athletes in the 10k and 5k so we can give this topic the attention is deserves?
-
Altough he has potencial he lacks balls.
Did you see prefontaine classic 10km? He was so reluctant in maintaining the pace when he realized it depended on him. He wouldn't even stay there for more than 200meters!
After drafting half the race!
And then afterwards he even has the audacity to complain than no one pushed like someone owned him anything! What a wimpy baby!
How can you expect me to like a guy like that?
Needless to say, I've been waiting some time for a fast race, I think we all have been. Then I will understand, you're right.
There was a Diamond league race in New York some years ago where it was quite windy and rainy and even then Gebhriwet just sucked it up and ran from the field, just giving his best. 13 low with such conditions is certainly more impressive than Farah's jogging in Lausanne if you ask me.
Not than I'm really fond of Gebhriwet or really anybody actually. -

Here is the race in question. Diamond league New York 2013. Awesome performance from Ben True in fourth as well.
