What do D1 coaches get paid? I know it will vary from each school, but guys like Wetmore and Vin? Or at other schools like Texas and Georgetown?

A few top DI coaches make $100,000 or so a year from the schools. I read several years back that Bev Kearney at Texas made $150,000 a year and she was the top paid coach in the country. I also read something back in the mid-90's where the coaches at major DI programs tended to make more in the $50-70K a year range. However, the ones that coach the professional runners often get money for that or a percentage of the racing fees the runners get. Also, a lot of coaches get paid to travel to clinics and camps during the off season, so they make money off of that. You can make a pretty good living coaching, but if you want to be rich, look elsewhere.
there may be fees for some of the coaches who work with elite runners on top of their college teams, but those runners are so few and far between that it is a non-factor. I hope that any college coach who is taking money from post-collegiate guys (other than guys making over 40K or so a year) have trouble sleeping at night.
I head McDonnell (spelling) of Arkansas was offered a million bucks a year to go to Oregon a few years ago and turned it down.
Any confirmation?
Not true. I heard Coach Mac laughed and told the guys that if that were true, he'd be in Oregon!
i dont understand why someone should be coaching for free.
well mcdonald should be making the most by far
Don't forget they almost all get car allowences.
My coach gets payed $67,000 a year. My coach gets a new car to drive every 2 years, and also has a Nike contract that pays $15,000 a year. I don't know what other incentives are build in, but my coach seems to do well.
Also, i don't know how it works, but I think coaches can make lots of money off of camps. But around here, i think most of that money goes into the pockets of assistant coaches.
My coach was at a mediocre d-1 school middle of the road in a mediocre region, we were by no means a force. He made 57k a year. We didnt have a lot of assistants but then again we didnt have many athletes less then 45 girls and guys combined.
An easy way to check coaches salaries for state supported schools is to check their budgets either in print or online, since their salary is reported in the athletic department budget. Also check football while you are at it to see the incredible amounts of money they throw at the linebackers coaches and whatnot.
Woops, forgot the message...
Where might one find those sites(budgets etc) on the internet?
It was rumored that my coach made 12K a year to coach one of the worst teams in a big confrence. I'm not sure but I think that's poverty level. So lets say it was exagerated...then he probably made mid 20s. Oh, and he was supported by a school that recently won a national football championship.
lets be sure to clarify.
a head track coach salary vs. cross country coach salary
