The Kenyans have a technique of "throwing" both legs at once over the barriers. In the water jump it might be slightly slower but it gives a secure double-foot landing, especially if there is a crowd.

Do yuo remember when we used to drive cows to the cattle dip on Tuesdays (well, in our area-Nyahururu, it used to be Tuesdays)?
The cow would jump and plunge into the 'dip' before floating and then swimming all the way to the platform.
That is what kiyeng did today in her last water jump.
She jumped and stuttered, then, lost momentum before 'restarting'.
Someone (Kemboi or his coach Moses) needs to work on that with her. She loses a lot of time after a jump.

I knew Kiyeng had it because of her kick. A slow race was never going to favour Nyambura. The cattle dip is a good analogy though, to me, she looked like those goatherds killing time jumping over barbed wire fences. I bet every boy in Kenya has done this.
So that is how the Kenyan hurdlers keep winning.
Most hurdlers jump one foot over the hurdle but then they have to wait until the other foot catches up. Kiyeng jumps both feet over so as soon as she lands she's ready to go.
I've got it figured out now. USA will be ready next time.

Coburn is NOT the person to be looking at for hurdling technique. She a stiff legger, which doesn't allow for much error to clear hurdles. So she tends to rotate forward after each hurdle. She also steps on the water barriers and jumps up rather than out.
On the waterjump you want to keep your momentum forward as opposed to upwards. The best way to do that is to keep crouched, and imagine yourself pushing off the front of the barrier -- all in one smooth motion. Step up/Stand up/Push up is very inefficient.
Hurdling is all about leading with your knee and letting your foot follow. By doing that you allow yourself more room during the trajectory to clear the barrier cleanly.
