These guys are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS! Sure, a fast 800m finish is cool and exciting, but where are the guys with GUTS?! When I see pro's run in championship races, I want to see GUTS, I want to see someone pour their heart out for a full 10k...not sit and kick 800m. Rant done.
It doesn't work like that, hence why you don't see it.
Professionals run to win. That is how you win.
I like to see a hard, grueling race as much as the next guy, but come on. That 10k the other day was one of the fastest championship 10ks of all time. Farah ran 27:01 for pete's sake.

The PBs of the Kenyans are as follows (according to the IAAF Startlist):
- Kamworer: 26:52
- Tanui: 26:49
- Karoki: 26:52
Farah and Rupp's PBs are as follows:
- Farah: 26:46
- Rupp: 26:44
I recall someone mentioning on another thread that the weather in Beijing at the time of the final was 77-79 deg with 61% humidity or something similar.
How fast do you expect these guys to run? Kamworer was within 10 seconds of his PB, Tanui and Karoki were both within 15 seconds of their PB, Farah was within 15 seconds of his PB, and Rupp was within 25 seconds of his PB.
Whatever they managed to run today was likely everything that they had, with very sub-optimal weather likely slowing them down.
Yeah, I hate when they don't run world records in world championships. If the winning time wasn't sub-26:30, did they even race?

One of the fastest of all time does not necessarily equal fast. 27:01 isn't that fast for someone who has been number 1 for 4 years.

That doesn't make sense. No one said they wanted a world record. Sub 26:30 isn't a world record. People do run world records or at least go 100% in other events.

Sarcasm, my friend. All these complaints about this year's 10k, when in fact it was the third fastest all time, behind Bekele's two that were in the 26:45 ballpark. People fault Mo for taking this race as it was instead of foolishly pushing the pace faster, when he has two 5k races coming up this week.

So, basically Rupp underachieved compared to the other four guys.
Quick aside, why does Rupp always run super close behind someone so that he is going to get spiked in the shins? Does he get off on it or something? If you watch his races, when the pack starts getting strung out, Rupp will always be as close as he can to the guy in front of him. Everyone else leaves a little room for the Holy Spirit.
Did Rupp get drug tested at the Flotrack throwdown track meet? Just curious.
