The 20yr old rising junior just squeaked through for third in his heat with a nice final burst. Watch out for this kid, he's a gamer. A better racer, and potentially faster runner, than both Sowinski and Loxsom. Despite a long collegiate season and then USAs and Pan Ams, Murphy's said that he's well rested. Doesn't even consider himself a 800m runner, and has confessed that he wants to move up to the 1500m next year. Did I mention he's run 14:15 in the 5k?

That's what happens when people focus too much on under distance workouts, especially towards the end of season/ "trying" to peak. They loose their supporting endurance and specific endurance.
They just way way overdo the under distance stuff, doesn't take much. Yet everyone thinks be they can blast some 150's 200's 300's that they are in peak shape, when they ain't!

Loxsom got tripped up a few times and that cost him. I do not think Loxsom just does under distance because he made the US team which is 3 rounds in 4 days and ran 3:45 in the 1500 a few weeks before USAs.

That was 2 months ago.
stupid argument because Loxsom beat just about everybody in the US to make the team and obviously did plenty of endurance related work to get through rounds there and he needed to be sharp speed-side to make the team.
nobody makes a US team without 4x400m split
capability in the 45-46 range

Nobody? Symmonds won US nationals and just ran a 48.4. He was not in 45-46 split range.
Loxsom needs to get away from Symmonds, that'd be his best move.

Loxsom needs to learn how to keep people from tripping him up. It's as if he's not fully aware of everything going on around him late in races.
Clayton is running the 800 and its not his primary race. He has and will be a longer distance guy. Its all the 1500 meter mileage that is carrying him through this peak that is lasting all season.
Having a CC season in the fall is key for him. He will be a 1:44 800 runner all the way up to a 13:20 5k time.

He'll be sub 1:44 and very much better at the 1500 - post college.
What's amazing is that the U.S. does not have one guy who could run sub 1:46.00 when it counted.
Atrocious showing, Sowinski, no where near it, as the more experienced guy.
It is a complete embarrassment that U.S. cannot get one guy into a Final that lost even Amos.
