I want to go to a certain college but Parents wont let me.

plus the main reason i want to go is to get the hell away from them too. I have lived with enough asian bitching for my whole life.

Test them. If they will really disown you because you want to go to a school where you'll be happy, I hate to say this, but they don't seem to be worth your time. What is the value of going to university somewhere where you're not happy? So they can tell their friends, "Ohh... our son is at UW..."

Go it on your own -- you won't kick yourself later on for giving in to BS demands. If you've got a full ride offer at WW or WSU, that makes it all the more easier.

I should add that I am not intimately familiar with too many Asian cultures, so I don't know what extent that will play in the seriousness of their threats. But don't go somewhere b/c they want you to go. Go where you want to go, and if they want you to go to UW because they're your parents -- screw them. You go to one-time events out of respect to your parents and such. You don't select a +4yrs place of living and schooling because they say so.

Test them. See what happens, and do your best to explain the situation to all your parents friends and peers -- expose the ridiculousness of the situation.

Always knew you were a pussy. You are actually rather stupid and lucky anyone would want you at their institution. You need to stay near home, you clearly aren't ready to be far away from the supervision of your parents yet.

all i know is, the running around western washington university is some of the best i've *ever* seen. you will love being a runner there, just do it.

Like others have said, try it. My parents weren't keen on me living in residence, but I did it and held firm. They were fine with it by the time it happened.

Of course, you have to get them used to the idea of you being independent. I'm not sure how long you have to decide, but do this in increments.

Overbearing parents always thinking they know what's best. I'm surprised you aren't more of a rebel. Why not just screw up the application to University of Washington so it can't be processed?

I have actually thought of trying to make afake letter form the UW college saying i am on the waiting list. While telling my parents i will go to the ones i want to and transfer (though i will never transfer, jsuta way to get away).... but the process seems too difficult to do so.

Plus i had already sent in my apps about 2 weeks ago to all three of them.

simple - Call the admissions office at UW and tell them that you are no longer interested in the school. Ask them to please remove you from consideration. They'll be happy to do it (I had a friend who did this after changing her mind for real.) Then you definitely won't get in! The only hitch will come when your parents start looking for an acceptance letter... they may call UW and bitch....but my guess is with all the beauracracy at a big school like UW, the admissions people will be all confused about what happened to your app. and sputter out excuses. Then THEY look incompetent and your parents get mad at them, not you.

Simple.

Move out, get a job, and pay your own way wherever you want to go. If you're working a typical college-menial job, you can get student loans to help you through school, assuming you have decent grades and keep getting them. The UW is a state college, so it's not as expensive as say, Gonzaga, where I paid my own way 10 years ago.

If they are willing to pay, they get some say in where you go, I guess. If you disagree strongly enough, pay for it yourself, and you get to pick.

I value my college education a lot more because I paid for it myself.

you actually are quite racist and obviously ashamed of your own heritage. asian parenting has produced some of the most successful students in the world. we dont even make up 10 percent of the country's population, yet we number what, 25% at the ivy leagues and over 50% at top public schools like cal and ucla. yeah, asian parenting really sucks--tell that to the asian students who DO go to western or WSU.

What the hell does race have to do with this thread? Sounds like your parents want whats best for you and they are voicing their opinion. Your race or your parents race have nothing to do with this. It's people like you who perpetuate the racial tension that exists nowadays. Grow up!

its just that asian parents tend to be more hard on strict with acedmic stuff, so i was just saying it sucks to have asian parents because of this.

you're retarded. every single parent want their children to excel academically, I am asian and my parents just as much as any of my other friend's parents did. Race is not an issue when it comes to freedom, my parents have allowed me to attend a university on the west coast and I am from a northeastern state. There is no reason for you to say that your parents are harder on you than any other parent in the entire world. just because they want you to go to a university where you'll be better prepared to enter the real world doesn't mean you need to bash on asians.

Parents want what's best for their children no matter what the race. Some are more forceful and adamant than others. Years from now you'll look back and see that they might have been correct. It's tough now but the great ones endure. Read the biography of Condoleeza Rice to see how tough parents can make you better in the long run.
