Of course no one thinks that Bulut, or, probably, Jamal was clean either.... I wonder how far down in that field they'll have to go years from now to find someone who can't be busted.

Just saw this. Why is an 8 year ban the maximum the IAAF can give?
So convicted doper Tomashova gets upgraded to Bronze?
Hurray?
Gamze Bulut vindicated.
Sadly I think you have to go down to 10th place in the race to find the rightful winner. Lisa dobrisky may be clean. Women cheat in the he bed and everywh re. Sick
When will the pathetic IAAF start sitting our whole countries from sanctioned international meets?
A certain number of positives in a year and we should be saying a country doesn't have it together in terms of anti-doping. No Diamond League, no WC, no Olympic games, no European championships, whatever.
Shannon Rowbury got 6th, I wonder if she can a shot at a bronze
1 2 4 were all dopers
So that leaves 3 5 6 to medals
I thought she was caught posing as a woman...

Left off the WC team, so is rumored to be among the 28 caught.
Just heard on BBC. 8 year ban and stripped of the gold. Not a big surprise, but hadn't seen this anywhere else.
Editor's note: Here is a link to an article about the ban:

That's a good question as she had a previous suspension and I thought she was up for a lifetime ban. If she's agreed to the ban, I wonder why the Turks initially cleared here. There is a lot more to learn here.

So Alptekin's compatriot Bulut is the Olympic champion. Many think she too is suspect. Prior to getting silver in 2012, she'd never broken 4:18 for 1500. Since the Olympics, she's never broken 4:07.
Seasonal bests for the new Olympic champion Gamze Bulut
2011 4:18.23
2012 4:01.18
2014 4:07.79
I appreciate you adding the link, but, for the record, I don't believe it was "worth the wait. " There are 3 clean athletes (hopefully there *were* 3...) who didn't get the proper glory - and $ - when they should have.
Also, if these 28 are only Turks and former Soviet bloc then I'm going to be pretty disappointed, as it will then look like only another Coe campaign volley, and not evidence that IAAF really is going after drug cheats.

I may have missed the answer somewhere else, but why did it take over 1100 days to get this result?
New tests that became available less than one month ago?
What is it?
Good - this should lead to more coverage of Lisa Dobriskey and her open attitude to publishing one\'s blood test results

\'Straight after the race, Britain\'s Lisa Dobriskey, who finished ninth, told BBC Radio 5 live: \"I don\'t believe I\'m competing on a level playing field.\" \'

After Rowbury's 3:56 and Salazar's connection, I doubt that she would have the reputation of the "clean olympic champion",although she was with John Cook at the time.
It wouldn't shock me to see a similar outcome for the winner of the men's 1500 in London. At least he has posted some quality times outside of the Olympic year, unlike the two Turkish women, but not the type of acceleration that he demonstrated in final 300 meters of the Olympics on a supposedly injured leg following two fast-finishing preliminary rounds.
I guess it's part of the settlement, in return for admittance. She is now banned mid 2010-2017? That means she could return at 34 for the 2017 WCs. The article says 8 years is the 'maximum for this kind of second offence', so I guess 2 and 8 years rather than 4 and lifetime.

Dobriskey's quote sounds more like sour grapes. The final was painfully slow until 450m to go, and there was a fall. Had the dopers been replaced with 2-5 clean athletes, she would have finished in the same spot because she ran a tactically poor race and failed to respond when the field started kicking.
I wish I could get excited about this news

Here's a video interview of Rowbury the day after the Olympic 1500 final. She doesn't strike me as a doper. Quite the opposite.
