I can't wait for A Duck and the apologists to spin this one. Leer, who is a Nike athlete, corroborates the majority of the story. This is great.
Old news. This is, and always has been, the Nike corporate culture. I don't get Mackey's reluctance to press charges. Eliminating Capriotti from the equation would be one of the best things to ever happen to the sport.

How is this old news? The story was just published. You don't get his reluctance to press charges? Let's see, he's a coach for a team with probably 1/10 the budget that just Al Sal's group alone has, and he's going to take on a multibillion dollar company like Nike who owns UO and the USATF? This is the company who paid to cover up positive tests for Armstrong, you think that they can't make Mackey's life miserable? Look at the trail of bodies that Nike has left twisted and mangled in the street and maybe then you'll "get" Mackey's reluctance to press charges. It's called self-preservation.

But do you understand his reluctance to press charges?
Fascinating that Starks was involved in a settlement before and that Cap had him there as his muscle during this argument.
Just want to connect the dots here.Early in the article:
“I’m like, ‘That was weird, you don’t usually see those guys back here.’ And in quick succession, [fellow Nike employees] Llewellyn Starks and Ben Cesar were sort of hot on his heels trying to catch him… They all had serious look on their face. Serious and sort of troubled.”
Then:
Whetstine said that Llewellyn Starks beat him up on the night of June 22, 2006, and sued both Starks and Nike for $3.9 million for the debilitating injuries he suffered that night. The two parties settled the lawsuit in 2009. Details of the settlement were not disclosed.
Using violence to defend the honor of dopers. Pathetic.
Anyone who deals with that sh|t company Nike is a traitor to the sport.
this stuff is getting out of hand. these revelations and all the drug talked has really soured me on the sport. kind of sucks.
More BS from the anti-nike folks.
No one heard the alleged threat. Mackey was so afraid of Cap, he didn't file a report until a month later. Coicidently about the time his runner was going to provoke the USATF.
Mackey was so afraid he further motioned for him to come over at the Flo meet.
Cap sounds like an out of control hothead, but this is nothing more than that.
I never understood why Starks wasn't in jail.
By definition this recent event is not old news.
Hopefully major media pick up this story. Nike/USATF are disgusting.
Anything less than firing this clown is disgusting. Too far this time.

Sort of like Alberto? and Starks? and.... and....
I'm curious as to what means he would use to kill Mackey.. Gun? Knife? Baseballbat? Roid Raging Galen Rupp?

Have any of you ever worked for a company that wouldn't fire Salazar and Capriotti on the spot for their violent outbursts? I've worked in offices if you even raised your voice you were gone. No questions. No second chances. Out the door. When boundaries are firmly understood, it makes it easy to have a productive, cooperative, and pleasant work environment.
T&F is in a sad state. Every day it seems like something worse pops up.
lay off the juice, dude. wrote:

Agree...
I never believe the sport was as corrupt as others but now I see that I'm an idiot for being so optimistic.
What did Mackey do to upset Capriotti so much??
