I have been following my neighbors kid running track for the last 2 years. The kid is born at the end of November. He's 14 yrs old and he won't be 15 until the end of November. He is having to run in the 15-16 group.
Last year when he was 13 at the Junior Olympics, and 13 for over 90% of the year, he had to run against 14 yr old kids born in Jan and Feb. who were 10-11 months older. He won the junior 400 meter dash at the USATF junior olympics, but only because he was an exceptional 13 yr old 7th grader running against all 14 yr old 8th graders in the finals.
Even though he will be 14 for over 90% of this year, this year he had to run against kids in the 15-16 age group. He was a 14 yr old 8th grader going to the 9th grade having to run against kids at the Junior olympics who were 21-22 months older going to the 11th grade . This just doesn't seem fair to me.
Why can't they just go to a system where you run at your age during the meet instead of your age at the last day of the year
