I figure it must be human nature as a general rule that whoever is the best will tend to act the most "entitled", almost by definition. You know the type, they think the rules don't apply to them.
In every case so far it's been the kid's helicopter parents reinforcing this belief in their child and that's where the real headache lies in setting the kids straight: the parents always seem more than willing to cause a major fuss with the administration if the slightest amount of discipline/reprimand is shown towards their child.
In the past six seasons the kids who act the most entitled have always been the fastest or second fastest, without exception for the boys. With the girls the "most entitled" award does not necessarily correlate to running success; mommy and daddy's little princess may be the fastest or slowest kid on the team.
Here's how it's played out the past six seasons in terms of who I would say acted the most entitled and caused the most headaches.
Season 1 Boys: Fastest Runner
Season 1 Girls: Outside Top 7
Season 2 Boys: Fastest Runner
Season 2 Girls: Outside Top 7
Season 3 Boys: Fastest Runner
Season 3 Girls: Fastest Runner
Season 4 Boys: Fastest Runner
Season 4 Girls: Fastest Runner
At this point my family moved to a new district and I took over another program that was well established.
Season 5 Boys: 2nd Fastest Runner
Season 5 Girls: Outside Top 7
Season 6 Boys: 2nd Fastest Runner
Season 6 Girls: Outside Top 7
