Male, 37 years old, 5'9, 140 lbs
Did not run until six years ago, have completed +30 marathons but only 3 on more than 30 mpw
Most recent marathon time was May 2015, 3:28 after an injury riddled 3 month training period at 40-50 mpw
I am currently in the middle of Pfitzinger 18/70, and am averaging about 5 mpw less than the program but have done essentially all the runs. Recent long training runs included 18 miles with last 10 at MP (7:15), 18 miles with last 12 at MP (7:15). They were tough, but doable. That being said, the idea of holding a 7:15 pace for 26.2 does not yet seem doable to me. I feel like I will be in for a battle, the marathon is in six weeks.
I am in week 11 of Pfitz 18/70, which is where he introduces VO2 max workouts, which seem short (800m, 1,000m) for the marathon. Should I substitute these workouts with longer threshold runs (~7 at LT) or more work at MP, or should I continue to follow his plan?
Advice, or your own personal experiences, are both appreciated.
