Salary of these 'Elite' groups???

what's the difference? they'd have the same side job anyway while pursuing pro running goals. the only difference is they're on a team.

I heard Hoka pay good salaries even to fringe runners. Eric Avila is apparently on a base salary of $40k plus the kit and x amount towards travel etc. Hanson Brooks are generous as well, especially with their incentives.

ZAP is around $500 per month stipend + Performance Bonuses + Prize Money. The athletes do not pay for rent, food, massage, gear, travel, etc. So they do not make much at all but they don't have many expenses either.

The point of going pro is being the best at running you can. If you have to work a side job and work alot of hours to make ends meet to fund your running you will be missing out on all the benefits that being a pro was supposed to be like being well rested, sleeping more, eat better, going on altitude trips, going races, having time to do strengthening, injury prevention, less distraction, not worrying if can pay rent, if can eat, etc. Yes getting free kit, being part of team, etc is great but if you have to work a side job to have a income and possibly struggle to make ends meet to live, your running won't improve. There is nothing wrong having a career job and running at same time, past runners have shown you can still be very successful working in the real world and running.

Hanson's just like any other group aren't generous with giving out salary's. You need to run low 28's for a guy and low 32's for a girl on the track to get any base salary with them. They provide a lot of support to athletes when it comes to travel, housing, and coaching though. Getting a salary means you have made it into the top 10 pretty much in your respective event in the US.

The way the Hanson's keep from having to pay their runners a decent salary is by forcing them to follow the Hanson's training plan. Basically set up for failure.

It must be decent pay if you look at someone like O'Lionaird who seems to live a comfortable life and certainly isn't relying on prize money.

I know in cycling the lower level guys make terrible money but the team provides rent, food, physio etc so they have practically no expenses. Maybe these running teams do something similar.

Not calling you a liar, but are you sure about what you posted? I thought they made x amount of dollars per year regardless, but I may have heard wrong.

Didn't Jager initially sign for 30,000 a year? That's what I heard on here and that German was offered 200k a year out of high school and Rupp signed for 500k after college. These numbers could be wildly off, they're just what I've read on these boards over the years.

It's shocking that we don't have solid numbers. Knowing they could make good money as a runner (relative to middle America) could be hugely motivating to kids getting started in the sport.

Out of curiosity, what about health insurance from any of these groups? I can see the appeal of a few years post-college where, if you're running well, you get by on a "little money but few expenses" gig. Would be great to live in a house rent free with a bunch of other guys training hard, food provided, and a small stipend. But who's paying Blue Cross/Blue Shield?

The truly elite get a decent clip of money in addition to having many of their needs paid for. I am sure someone like Uceny and Lipari and McGee in Boston are getting good money. For the mid levels, someone like Katie Matthews at BAA, she is getting very little money, like someone mentioned $500-$1000 a month, but she will have basically no expenses. Health Insurance is covered.
