Hi, I am in highschool and my goal for the upcoming track season is to run a sub 1:50 800m. The main 'thing' my training lacked this season was weight lifting. My coach never really policed how we strength trained either so I slacked heavily on our most basic weight training (pull ups push ups core etc). If possible I would like a link to a routine that is geared towards middle distance runners, or one that you think is viable. Thank you!
I suggest asking Drew at Baye.com to help you with this, if you can't construct a program yourself from all the material at his site. There are other sites I could recommend, but I'd rather not distract/confuse you at this point.
When designing your program, focus on the muscle groups most directly involved in running, as well as those involved in stabilizing you while you run ("core"). Avoid those which seem to fall into neither category, although if you are extremely ectomorphic and tolerate lifting well, little/no harm may come from training your neck, traps, forearms, etc.
