Perfect race for Rowbury. Simpson served as her defacto rabbit and Rowbury passed her in the last 100 meters. She ran smartly.

That is sure how it looked. It'll be interesting to hear what Shannon says about that.

It's interesting that Simpson said her focus during the race was on catching Hasan. She really felt she could beat her, and was trying to reel her in a little bit at a time. I wonder if that also helped Rowbury.

Is it just me or was there some hiccup where it seemed something was edited out of the interview? Right before the comments about Shannon not having beaten her in years.

I didn't notice anything in particular. But that's because it was running pretty roughly for me, with lots of stops and starts.

I'll have to go listen again in a bit and see if I can hear anything.

Yes. They edited out the 'that f*cking bitch" part.

Maybe it isn't that impressive when it's 6 seconds outside the WR. If a guy runs 3:31 is it eye opening?

I just posted this on the other thread:At first I was super impressed by Jenny and thought, wow, that's pretty gracious of her for congratulating Shannon after getting beaten out as heir apparent to the American Record. But then I watched the video and noticed that it took her 4 minutes to say that, prompted by some pointed questioning by the interviewer to bring out the compliment. And when she said, "Shannon hasn't beaten me in years," it was a sharp correction to the Flotrack guy who suggested that they had been trading wins back and forth. That's where the video edit happened, so I wonder what was cut out. There was quite an intense negative response there, and it was a glimpse behind the normal pleasant and professional face that Jenny keeps. That tells me there's quite a fire and rivalry brewing there. Good...keeps them both hungry.

I listened again. You don't hear the interviewer saying anything about them trading winds, but it certainly does sound like she is correcting him and he is apologizing. Maybe he just sounded like a moron and cut it out.

I don't have time to write down a word-for-word quote, but it was something like Flotrack guy: video cuts in "...constantly going back and forth, and now here, you getting second, how does that feel to know that you're not invincible? how do you regroup to make sure that this doesn't happen again?" And Jenny said, "First of all, Shannon and I have not gone back and forth. This is the first time that Shannon has beaten me in years. ...in my recent fitness and history." Then she began to back off and soften and say, "This is definitely her night tonight..."But I guess I was surprised by the sharpness in the correction. Tells me there's some emotion there.

Nice recap. That was pretty much my reaction as well.

I was impressed when Simpson went on to say that Rowbury's accomplishment wasn't about beating Simpson but about running an impressive race. That seemed especially gracious coming right after her sharp correction of the interviewer.

I also thought it was interesting to get a glimpse into how Simpson thinks during the race. I was surprised at how sharply she reacted to the suggestion that she couldn't catch Dibaba and Hasan. She was willing to concede that Dibaba was in a league of her own, but she made it clear that she and Hasan are real rivals, so it was realistic to try to run her down. .
